The same way people are flying to St Maarten to shop, the same way they could be coming to Antigua to Shop, when is someone going to build a shopping mall here instead of more hotels, that are empty 60% of the time. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy what you want right here on your home ground, instead of having to ship and pay duty all the time.

With only Antigua, St.Vincent, and Barbados contributing to LIAT, I wonder why negotiations would not include requiring investment from countries who benefit from LIAT service. Clearly an entire initiative that is focused on making Shopping in St. Marten easier, demonstrates how much value there is in the regional market.
I agree with the above contributors... .shopping in st. marten is one thing, but what happens when you return home with your new wares ...baggage fees, weight restrictions and customs charges. Shopping abroad is becoming more and more inconvenient and unpleasant, not to mention expensive.

Whats amazing is that since 2009, this administration has seemingly only found jobs for Chinese and Cuban workers. The seemingly only Antigua worker project (fencing sports grounds), turned out to be a ridiculous scandal.

My best wishes to all stakeholders involved in this shopping intiative package in St. Maarteen! It is ALWAYS good to see collaborative efforts, especially, when it is "lowering the cost" of shopping in St. Maarteen, and reducing fares with the airline and hotels, so other folks in Antigua and the region could afford to have enough monies in their pockets to shop and pump as much monies into the island's economy! It just makes economical sense, at a time, when the cost of living is growing beyond control, making lives for many too hard to cope! In Antigua, we need similar inititives to not only get visitors to spend but locals as well! I just that ALL stakeholders in Tourism is watching, and get the ball rolling! Let's us put "creativity" to action!
