Antigua St John's - Supervisors and middle management form the foundation of any successful company, and are even more essential in a service environment.
However, very few supervisors are adequately prepared for the important tasks that they being required to perform. Little formal training is available, and most learn on the job.
Recognising this need, the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA), in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus, has undertaken to train supervisors and middle management in the tourism sector to render local businesses more competitive and better-equipped to fight in a now global market.
Starting last December, nearly 50 employees from 13 AHTA member hotels and tourism businesses attended classes facilitated by Shirlene Nibbs twice per week for 10 weeks. The participants' enthusiasm and motivation was remarkable, and nearly 100 percent of the students completed the course.
