Maginley Touts New Digital Platform for Ministry

Maginley Touts New Digital Platform Antigua, St. John's - Tourism Minister John Maginley has spoken in glowing terms of plans to revolutionise the way the ministry operates, through the launch of a digital platform that will combine its websites into an integrated online strategy.

He said the aim is to create "a leading digital presence globally to promote the country in existing and new markets".

Details of the initiative were given on Tuesday as Maginley opened day two of debate on the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure in the House of Representatives.

The minister said the English language version of the site would be launched within weeks, with another seven to be introduced sometime after. These include Russian, Italian, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

"Included in our roadmap, Madame Speaker, is a brand new global website, integrated social media, and world-class user experience," he said.

The tourism minister said the site will have geo-tracking capabilities, allowing automatic recognition of the country a browser is from, and switching to the relevant language.

The latest video technology would also be utilised, he told parliamentarians.

To shore up its marketing campaign, Maginley said a deal has been signed with Earth Television for the placement of two cameras in Antigua, allowing for live streaming on the site.

In exchange, the country has to pay for the related internet and power costs.

"If we are the leaders in this thing, it will make a difference," he said.

The minister also said the 60 small properties built during the World Cup Incentives programme, and others, would be able to advertise on the site.

"We'll give them an opportunity to present themselves to the entire world on one platform," he noted.

It was not stated how much this digital platform would cost the government.

Responding to the charges levied by the Leader of the Opposition on Monday in his contribution to the debate, Maginley accused Gaston Browne of creating his own facts.

He tore into a proposal put forward by Browne for government land to be sold for about $1 per square foot, and said this was irresponsible governing and "regurgitated junk".

Why don't we be positive, we elect people to make decision and then we get our chance to judge next year! We are our own worse enemy sometimes

InteresteD, we have tried this policy before. In the past government has turned to overseas "experts", had them design and implement a product and then it goes nowhere. Development calls for including your people in the key processes. Let me suggest that since you do PR free, out of love for the minister (you may probably say country), that he utilizes you instead of the costly failure this project will be. I am thinking since you claim you are working for free, we will be able to at least cut down on some moneys lost in this non strategic nightmare. This way though your efforts will probably garner no fruit, at least its free

Why you call me out?

Well well..... No mention of the increased arrivals! No mention of increased airlift....just criticism!!!! Maginley showed the site! What of the eight languages? What of the discussion of all of the content being provided by local experts? And Pinterest and Tumbler ( think that is what he said)! What about the booking capabilities? What about central theme that this site will be a platform for growth! I watched the speech on ABS last night and must say that you guys need to be conscious of the information and try to under stand the difference that this could make in thetourism industry. Nuff said

Now you have the online thing going, what about the human resource thing? You think it will happen by itself? You realize all you talk about was the computer thing, not one word about peopel tourism and assembling the right people to handle the computer thing. That is what we tourism is now?

What a joke. Elections coming up so now they're coming out of their slumber. We've heard all of this before, it's pathetic. One thing they do know is that Antigua people like to hear and believe that they're actually looking out for us, basically Antiguans have amnesia, they cannot honestly be so gullible yet again! We need to get rid of these clowns. Wish there was a third party that we could stick in there. I remember the first Manifesto the UPP put out and how HAPPY everyone was. The sky was the limit. I don't think any of us ever thought it could get this bad.

Why is this ixiox still a Cabinet Minister? Perhaps Maginley should go back to training young tennis players their back hand strokes and stop his campaigning. It time for him and his party to go.

@skyewill, and I quote.
"2 words you must never believe coming out of Antigua, “brand new” and “world Class” because we really don’t know what those words mean"

Simple, even I can explain that.
brand new = WPP
world Class = the deteriorated 10 million dollars a mile road up at the stadium especially the one leading to Parham, from Piggots.

See , not so difficult after all. : lol:

I listened yesterday where the MP posited that though the skills existed in Antigua the experience did not. Now this is a country which boasted of having internet gaming companies which marketed their product to the world. These companies had locals who were skilled at internet marketing and software development. If the MP had stated a public tender had been attempted and the results justified his conclusion, then I would have been forced to agree with him. Projects like this can be divided where an experienced consultant is hired to detail the requirements and then technical persons (eg software developers and project managers) deal with implementation. Speaking of regurgitation, has there not been talk of this project for at least 2 years? Awaiting the MP's, perhaps self appointed, PR person InteresteD)

On the road again - AGAIN?- oh, in glowing terms 2.0

THE PATTERN: 2 words you must never believe coming out of Antigua, “brand new” and “world Class” because we really don’t know what those words mean.

"If we are the leaders in this thing, it will make a difference," he said.
LEADERS NEVER SAY “IF” WE ARE THE LEADERS, THEY KNOW IT but he is right to doubt because leaders are well trained in the field of LEADERSHIP and unless John had leadership training at St. Michael School, where would he have gotten it? Is it campaign time? Oh yes, IT’S TIME TO SAY WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR, get back in power and forget about the RADAR FOR THE AIRPORT THING, thing/whatyama call it!
