Antigua St. Joh's - The Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute and the Ministry of Tourism in the Republic of Haiti have begun discussions on areas of cooperation.
It follows the signing this week of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ABHTI and the Ministry of Tourism in Port-au-Prince.
Mr. Calvin Ambrose, Executive Director of the ABHTI toured the Ecole Hoteliere D'Haiti Hospitality Institute to witness its operations and practical examination of a cohort of students.
During his visit, Mr Ambrose met with Director Gerard Therilien and Training Director Daniel Denis - both of the Ministry of Tourism - to initiate discussions and planning on staff and student exchange, curriculum development, the elaboration of a strategic plan for training in the short to medium term, and train between 800-1000 students over a 2 year period.
Speaking after the tour of the facilities, the ABHTI Executive Director explained that there is much that can be done to enhance the programme offerings at the Ecole Hoteliere D'Haiti and under the new partnership it would be realized.
According to Ambrose, it is expected that both countries' Ministers of Tourism will meet early in 2013 to establish further synergies and cooperation for tourism destination marketing and branding.
