Tourism Authority Partners with Tripadvisor

Tourism Authority Partners with TripadvisorAntigua St. John’s – Global travel website Tripadvisor has been chosen as a partner for an upcoming global Antigua & Barbuda tourism ad campaign to run throughout the fall and winter travel season of 2012-2013.

This follows the continuing trend towards an aggressive online marketing strategy, to increase awareness and arrivals to the destination.

The campaign targets travellers planning trips to the Caribbean with strategically placed banner ads on Antigua & Barbuda related pages, as well as on the pages of other competitive destinations. Tripadvisor’s global reach allows for coverage in the strongest traditional source markets, which include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and France.

At the end of May 2012, Tripadvisor reports approximately 4.2 million users searched their portal for Caribbean content, and that 167,000 users searched for Antigua & Barbuda content directly. Minister of Tourism Hon. John Maginley noted, “Tripadvisor affords us the ability to reach travel-minded consumers focusing on Caribbean travel at that split second, when we’ve got their attention to convince them to book their vacations in Antigua & Barbuda.

With a key advantage being that we can redirect the consumers’ attention from the pages of competing destinations to Antigua & Barbuda’s pages, this is what really seals the deal for this campaign.”

Marketing Manager Charmaine Spencer further elaborated that “the Tripadvisor campaign differs from traditional Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) such as Expedia because Antigua & Barbuda banners on the Tripadvisor site will drive traffic to Antigua & Barbuda’s official website and local booking engine BookAntiguaNow.com.

As Tripadvisor serves mainly as an information portal to travellers ‘in the know’, the consumer now becomes our guest to expose current promotions, events, sights and tastes of our islands to ignite their interests to finalize the purchase.”

With Antigua & Barbuda page views on Tripadvisor currently being reported as 1.2 million in the month of May 2012, the Tourism Authority expects traffic to Antigua & Barbuda-related pages on Tripadvisor and the official websites to grow significantly in the next few months.

Tripadvisor boasts 75 million reviews and opinions and operates sites in 30 countries and 21 languages worldwide.

Airlift from Canada

#4 Noreen » 2012-09-09 15:28

It is actually easier to fly to Antigua from Canada than the US. The weekend flights leave Toronto early morning so you can get a redeye flight the night before from any major Canadian city, It provides a 2 or 3 hour window to connect, same terminal, baggage is checked through so it is very smooth.Westjet will also fly on Wed and AC on Thurs (Dec-Apr) which is preferable to the congestion travelling via the US. Airfares are now competive too.

Marketing Is Relationship Building!

Notes FromA Native Son Of The Rock! Until the Good Hon. Minister of Tourism & Aviation develop & implement a Strategic Plan for Tourism and Airlift Transportation with Marketing as a Strategic Imperative, no tinkering around with search engines is going to solve the problem. This is the third initiative in two years.
When will the Rebranding Report The Strategic Goal of Antigua& Barbuda - the Best Brand be completed and sent to Cabinet?
The time is fast approaching for another throne speech. Quote:
With This in mind the Ministry of Tourism, Civili Aviation & Culture, and the A&B Tourism Authority will continue to engage its airline partners in discussion, with the objective of increasing airlift to Antigua & Barbuda in 2012/13.

Mr. Minister, you are to be congratulated for Westjet's entry into Antigua from Toronto on October 28, 2012 which completes the major Canadian Airlines weekend airlift. Expend more Relationship Building with Jetblue.
Nothwithstanding CDN Airlines weekend flights, one can get to Antigua from any major CDN city any day of the week via the US, San Juan or Barbados sometimes cheaper than from Canada direct.

better training

#2 wadadlichild » 2012-09-08 10:41

Hope the tourism folks know that people go to trip advisor to express their dissatisfaction /gripes while traveling. This is important because other travelers do take note to what is being said about a particular country. I advise the powers that be in Antigua&Barbuda to provide better training for individuals such as customs officers, immigration officers and security personel especially for departures..... .FOCUS MAINLY ON PROFESSIONALISM .....After all we want returning visitors....... ..

Finally being creative

#1 sitco » 2012-09-08 08:21

That is very creative. You should look at the Canadian market also because I realise alot of people want to come antigua during the winter season from Canada , but the main reason why they do not come is because it is very difficult to get here.
