Sir Viv Plugs Antigua In British Press

Sir Viv Plugs Antigua In British PressAntigua St john's - Members of the British press recently capitalized on the opportunity to breakfast with Antigua & Barbuda’s and by extension West Indies cricketing legend, Sir Vivian Richards.

Held under the auspices of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority in London, the UK & Europe Tourism Director Hilary Modeste said the event was perfectly timed to coincide with the West Indies Tour of England.

“Cricket is currently foremost in the minds of the British sporting public and having a well–respected sporting hero such as Sir Vivian Richards over, presented the ideal platform for us to gain media attention and promote Antigua & Barbuda, and cricket in the destination,” he said in a release.

Sir Viv addressed questions from 13 selected journalists who represented media houses to include the Daily Telegraph, Destination of the World News, Mail on Sunday, Men’s Health as well as the British Guild of Travel Writers.

Rather than focusing on the current Test series, the Antigua & Barbuda sports tourism ambassador engaged the journalists with tales of his childhood spent viewing cricket matches from treetops outside the Antigua Recreation Grounds, of playing cricket on his favourite beach, his top hang-out spots and restaurants, the country’s national dishes.

Following the two-hour session the country’s National Hero conducted one-on-one interviews with some of the journalists, and autographed Antigua & Barbuda-branded cricket bats.

The cricketing icon later appeared on the show “Cricket AM”, which airs every Saturday on Sky Sports. The Sky Sports network appeals to mostly an ABC1 audience and has a monthly reach of 1 million individuals.

In a 10-minute televised interview that aired at peak time, Sir Viv spoke about his love for Antigua & Barbuda, as well as his impressions of the current Test match.

Viewers shared their thoughts on the interview via Twitter, with one viewer tweeting, “Sir Vivian Richards on Cricket AM....the best of the best. #MasterBlaster.” Other viewers shared the same sentiment tweeting “Sir Viv on Cricket Am, a cricket god and legend and genesis all in one!!” and “Great show today Viv was an absolute legend!”

Sir Viv’s appearance on the show was promoted weeks before the event, with promos on the Sky sports website also mentioning Antigua & Barbuda as a destination.

It's a pleasure to know Sir Viv personally as a man outside the cricketing arena, and his cricketing exploits, As human beings we all are prone to imperfection, and each has his flaws, but as to Sir Viv, as a man, how down to earth, oh so humble. First God Almighty, second Muhummad Ali, then perhaps Nelson Mandela or maybe Sir Viv you are de GREATEST
