Antigua, St John's - Antigua’s Café Napoleon restaurant is making strides as it maintains the success started in July 2002. Located in Redcliffe Quay in downtown St John's, this hideaway is renowned among locals and tourists alike.
The establishment runs smoothly with six people under its employ, one of whom has been there since its genesis. Owner Lisa Mitchel describes the eatery as "a little secret garden in the city”. And from the look of things, it doesn’t seem like she would ever be contradicted.
The Café boasts an atmosphere of peace and tranquility – an odd ambiance considering the bustling business environment around it. “It is a glorious feeling being in such a friendly environment… It is pampering to be at the Café Napoleon at any time of the day,” said one regular patron.
The cool sea breeze, and pacifying melodies mixed with the quiet chitchat among the customers, the exceptional service and quality food at Café Napoleon make it an easy favorite among many.
It is ideal to bask in the delightful ambience of Redcliffe Quay – observing the excitement of the tourists milling from the ships on the waterfront.
According to Mitchel, Café Napoleon has always maintained a goal of pleasing its customers, because they are grateful to them for bringing business. Because of this, the Café customer service is exceptional.
With all its exceptional qualities, Café Napoleon was not immune to the recent economic downturn, but the management’s persistence and customers’ loyalty have kept the business afloat.

“Just stay positive in a negative environment like this. Value your customers and adapt to the environment. Be positive and work with it,” Mitchel said.
She added that despite the challenges, the Café has always maintained its standards.
On a more solid note, Café Napoleon boasts a remarkable signature dish. Titled the Cordon Bleu - this creation includes chicken breast filled with ham and cheese served with creamed potatoes or fries, vegetables, and white wine mustard sauce. Also on the menu is the tasty Warm chicken-liver salad, sauteed with mango and balsamic vinegar and served on lettuce with croutons.
Café Napoleon is famous for its distinctive and delicious menu, which also includes a children's menu.
The daily menu includes breakfast, lunch, salads, desserts, and dinner. The Café also serves Croque Mousieur for lunch. The Fresh Tuna Nicoise Salad is also part of the unique offerings. Hot coffee is always available, and served throughout the day.
Café Napoleon also has a well-stocked bar with a variety of drinks including non-alcoholic beverages, beers, and bottled water.
It also boasts a vast collection of wine, from light and dry to full bodied. These are offered by both the bottle and glass. A list of these fine wines from France, Chile and Italy, including white wines, rose wines, red wines, and champagne, is readily available for perusal.
The prices at Café Napoleon are very reasonable and are all VAT inclusive. A visit to Café Napoleon is one that will be always be memorable.
