Big Banana- Excellent Service

Big BananaIn a cooler area of St John’s lies a restaurant. This restaurant has a bar, an outdoor balcony, and an indoor seating area. It also has some of the finest service I have yet encountered in Antigua.

This restaurant is Big Banana.

Big Banana has some nice pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, salads, and the like. Ultimately, it is an excellent diner for the family or for a small excursion with your friend for lunch.

The restaurant serves fairly large meals at somewhat reasonable prices, has a respectable list of drinks (although the wines were titled White and Red!) and as I said earlier, very friendly and professional staff.Big Banana Piza

Arriving at Big Banana, I took my seat and looked over the menu. I decided on a starter of chicken wings, BBQ flavour, and seeing the pizza on the logo, I insisted on trying a small margherita (which was actually pretty large), as well as the seafood pasta, and for dessert some sweet chocolate cake.

The first thing was the wings. The sauce was truly very good and very messy. A fine starter, especially if you bring the kids around. Next arrived the notorious pizza of Big Banana, hailed around the island as one of the finest.

I was surprised when the small pizza I ordered arrived, mainly because the thing was huge! I dug in hungrily, and my culinary desires were treated to a nice pizza. Although not exactly an Italian stallion, the pizza was definitely on the better side of the meter.

Not long after, the seafood pasta was at my table. It was very creamy and cheesy, filled with shrimp, calamari, and the like. Like the pizza, it wasn’t top of the line, but it was a treat. Finally, the chocolate cake to top it off. This cake of three layers had very sweet icing, and complemented the earlier courses well.

Overall, Big Banana is a nice diner, a fun place for casual eating, and not bad if you want to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

I am happy that Big Banana is back in its original location. The ambiance is certainly better than their new (now closed) location.
Unfor tunately, like most restaurants here, the service lacks. The pizza I ordered was close to cold.
They have a very nice manager who tries his best. He has to deal with the local attitude - not an easy feat.
The owner needs to pay more and better attention to his restaurants. His staff needs to be better trained.

Service

In the past, the service there was notoriously and very bad. So if it has indeed improved greatly, that's really good news.

You're talking about Big Banana back in the original location? The pleasant staff members from many years ago were still there when I went a couple of weeks ago, I'm so happy it's back to where it started, it's so much nicer and I love the new outside bar. I only ate a couple of times at the old "new" location, it wasn't my style, but I'd still get take out. The place was full, we got served quick enough and the staff were more than helpful.

Improved

I think service has improved tremendously, I was there last week and it was a nice surprise,
On the other hand I can't say the same about the Big Banana at the airport . The service is bad and you wait too long for a pizza.

Big Banana has gotten comfortable as is the trend with many businesses over years of operation and has lost its welcoming appeal and demeanor to me for sometime now...... I still try to visit ever so often to see if they would change back to the better however it is evident from the frequent staff changes, the evident lack of work appreciation and the often unwelcoming attitude and missing customer service demeanor.... A customer service session or two is overdue for them right about now... else the shawarma and pizza man, go continue to get their potential business..... You can even now see them cutting back on customers, no bags or even napkins for pizza :D.... Times must be really blue eh... Longing for old Big B back....
