Quay Bar and Grill Open

Quay Bar and Grill openingAntigua St. John’s - With an investment of EC $1.3 million in a struggling economic climate, owners of the newly opened Quay Bar and Grill are hoping that not only would they realise that investment but that they would actually add to the nation’s tourism product and make a profit.

Located some 50 feet from the cruise ship terminal in St. John’s, the Quay Bar and Grill occupies the location that once housed the Commissioner’s Grill.

But if what Marketing Manager Scott Brodie says is accurate, the 13-man staff complement intends to not only deliver a product second to none to tourists, but also deliver at a standard that would keep them coming back.

Owner and Manager Andre Hull explained that the $1.3M investment spreads across two separate endeavours in the same building, but declined to divulge the nature of the second business until an official launch takes place.

Hull owns the place with Minister of Health Wilmot Daniel. The two are said to be even partners.

In the meantime, however, the Quay Bar and Grill brings with it “the DC” as its head chief. DC is known for his ingenious contributions to the Tides Restaurant. He works in a completely new and modern kitchen with all local chefs.

“We can’t give up because of the economy. We are at an ideal spot in St. John’s and with creative marketing and good service we an have an impact,” Brodie said.

The Quay Bar and Grill has brought forward a notable collection of signature dishes from the Commissioner’s Grill but tweaked it slightly with creative plates of their own.

Brodie said the early opening of the Grill in the middle of the low season will serve to the benefit of two ends in that the local population would have the first hand in the dish with the second being something of a test run for the staff and dishes before the season picks up.

The restaurant will open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday each week and is said to boast a price range appealing to both local and international patrons.

“You can come and get a really good meal for an affordable price,” Brodie said.

The restaurant has been fully refurbished with all modern amenities from the entrance to the kitchen.

“We are fully functional. We are proud of what we have created here,” Brodie said.

I have no doubt that the taxi drivers will shuit this down if they don't like it, why? because it's well known that they have more power than the management of SJDC and if they don't like it, they will shut it down, yes they they are that ingnorant.

So it's good for the Quay and the Ilsand for tourism, why should they care, they don't pay tax, make a fortune, and are rude to the tourists. Thank God that they are soon to be chucked out of the Quay and that can't happen soon enough.

GRILL AND BAR

Are you telling me that Minister Daniel has gone and invested in a "gentleman's club" in the bottom of Redcliffe Street in St. John's and the AG who exposed and sought to bring Lester Bird, Robin Yearwood and Hugh Marshall who invested in the manufacture of a uPVC window plant at Crabbs has done nothing. He said the AG said that they should not have entered business while in government and took them to Court. He lost however. But to trade in female flesh is awful and no woman should ever vote for them. Men and women of God, who profess Christianity, where are you? from 18-6 to a men's club could see men doing a strip dance at given times. Heaven help us all

50% of $1.3 million

#8 Dr. Dredd » 2012-08-22 12:53

This article says $1.3 million is the investment and Wilmoth Daniel is an even partner with Hull. 50% is EC$650,000. In 2004, prior to the election that brought the UPP to power, this same Minister could not put gas in his car. Wow. Things that make you say MMMMMMMMM.

unbelievable

Thanks to those who tell us the TRUTH here. How can this be allowed? Has Daniel's interest been declared? How can an MP seriously consider opening a "Gentlemans Club" (i.e whore house)? Another example of the contempt that our representatives have for the 50% of the population who happen to be female. These girls are being "imported" from Latin America like pieces of meat to be ogled at by sad old man. It's bad enough in all the other strip clubs and cat houses, but for an MP to be a knowing partner is just unbelievable. But isn't this the same MP who opene The TRinity in English Harbour, promising to "blow the others out of the water"? And what happened? Empty every night. Totally empty and now up for rent again. So with such a great track record in the restaurant and nightclub business, maybe we shouldn't get too concerned as it will probably close in six months.

call it what it is

Congratulations on the opening of the QUAY. I wish it all the success in the world. I have two concerns. (1) According to the article the enterprise has two entities. One being the Bar and Grill and the other is “unnamed”. A careful look at the signage on the building will leave no doubt as to what the second business will be – a Gentleman’s club. Call it what it is! It is rumored that this will be a “high Class” operations with the workers imported from Central and South America. With only 50 ft from the cruise ship terminal, I do not think that this is a good site for a “gentleman’s club”. Secondly, this club is in the center of town and could attract some unsavory people. I would not want to be dining with my family with pole and lap dancing and whatever else taking place above me. (2) My second concern is whether or not the Hon. Minister has filed the appropriate disclosures in accordance with the Integrity Act.

The article states, “Hull owns the place with Minister of Health Wilmot Daniel. The two are said to be even partners.” What does this mean?

“Let’s fix the little things with RWE before we attempt to fix the big things.”

Query

Have all the cooks/chefs to whom severance payments were owed under Commissioner's Grill, been paid the amounts owed to them in full, before returning?
