Preston Bailey Arrives For Antigua’s Wedding Weekend

Antigua St. John's - Preston Bailey, the award-winning event wedding-planner, has partnered with the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority to promote the destination’s ‘Love in Antigua’ weekend wedding activity geared at further solidifying the island’s position as the romance capital of the Caribbean.

Bailey, who arrived on the island on Friday afternoon, told Caribarena that he intended to feature the twin-island state in his destination wedding promotions from henceforth. He will be promoting the destination through his popular television program.

He said his trip here is intended to develop something of a personal feel of the island while interacting with the main resorts and tourism officials that make the product what it is.

“80 percent of the weddings that I do are destination weddings and I am hoping that by being here I will get to understand the island and its product better and be better able to recommend and bring my clients here.

“My objective this weekend is exploration and getting a better knowledge of the area. I have quite an itinerary set up for this weekend,” Bailey said.

The wedding planner has worked considerably in neighboring island St. Maarten, St. Bart’s, St. Croix, and Jamaica and has contributed notably to improving the product in those destinations.

This weekend’s activities have been dubbed the “ultimate Caribbean destination-wedding planning event”, and are expected to feature hundreds of persons locally and internationally, all looking to gain insight into the trends of the “modern bride.”

The ABTA says that on Sunday October 14 at 2pm, the Nelson’s Dockyard Copper and Lumber Store/Hotel will be transformed into “Bride Villa”, the ultimate wedding and romance expo. This will be the largest ever seen in Antigua & Barbuda, and patrons will meet with the premier wedding service suppliers on island in a Saint Tropez style setting.

There will also be fashion shows, contests, live music and speakers setting the romantic tone for the evening.

Chairman of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourist Board Mr. Ted Isaac said it is hoped that Bailey’s presence here will foster growth in the niche market.

“I think with his experience and with him being here we will see a significant boost. Most of the hotels in the Hotel Association will be involved in this weekend’s activities,” Isaac said.
