Antigua St John's - After four days of intense training, Antigua's youth celebrated the development of their first mobile app. Most of them had no prior programming experience.
Fifty young people ranging in age from 12-21, many fresh out of their end-of-term exams, took part in the special training hosted by the Antigua-based non-profit Precise Development Foundation.
At the end of the workshop, 15-year-old Tara from Lightfoot said, “This was fantastic! At first I thought it was going to be hard team exercises, but the facilitators really made it easy. I can’t wait to get together with my friends to start making our own apps."
Precise Development Founder Wingrove Spencer said, “The experience with these youths has validated our conviction that our young people are filled with the talent, creativity, and discipline to define a new future for our country. They can embrace their correct position as producers and not mere consumers in the mobile phone revolution."
The training was facilitated by a team from the Caribbean-birthed BrightPath Foundation. BrightPath is a non-profit organisation which delivers values-based technology and digital content training to youth, communities, and governments.
