ICT Fest In Seventh Year

PM Spencer and Minister MansoorAntigua St John's - The Multipurpose Cultural and Exhibition Center has been transformed
into a digital village as businesses from across the twin-island state prepare to present their latest work in upstream Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the seventh annual ICTFEST.

This year's event will be held under the theme, “ICTFEST
2011 - Empowering the Nation, Improving Lives”.

Held from October 12-13, from 9 am to 9pm, ICTFEST consists of two days of interactive exhibitions, technology competitions, and interactive seminars.

The seventh annual tech-fest will feature a new, 15,000 sq ft outdoor exhibition space featuring an arcade, and a range of dynamic exhibitions.

The FEST, according to organisers, aims to create a platform for students, academia, and businesses to get together in a
digital community that offers a myriad of exhibits and interactive activities for people of all ages.

Over the years, individuals participating in the FEST have included ICT companies, public
authorities and non-profit organisations. This year, over 30 exhibitors will be participating.
The official launch of the Technology for Education 20/20 component of the Connect Antigua and Barbuda Initiative will be held during the 2011 ICTFEST.

One hundred registered principals and teachers will receive their laptops on Wednesday, October 12 and the remaining 300 on Thursday, October 13.

This year, ICTFEST will also offer seven hands-on, content-oriented seminars in areas
such as Careers in ICT, Systems Development Life Cycle in Software Engineering, Digital
Broadcasting, ICT Solutions for Business Managers, Mathematics web-based application,
Notesmaster a tool for ICT in Education, and Using Movie Maker as an ICT Tool in Education.

Additionally, APUA imobile has partnered with the Antigua & Barbuda Investment Authority
(ABIA) and the Bright Path Foundation, to offer a seminar titled “Introduction to Mobile
Application Development”.

A number of technology competitions open to all schools and community youth organisations will also be held at the FEST.  These include the ACT ICTFEST 2011 Computer Assembly Race, the Digicel ICTFEST 2011 ICTHunt (WebSearch), the DMS Speed Typing competition, and the newly added Graphic Design Competiton. Registration forms for the competitions are available at www.ictfest.ag.

ICTFEST existed before this government came into office. It was then called Techfest. Persons like Eddie Mansoor, who enjoy decrying anything before 2004, need to stop distorting history. Following is a quote from the governments own web site www.antigua-barbuda.com/news_archive/newsletter59.asp#s17 which states: Quote:
Prime Minister Lester Bird opens TechFest 2001 Prime Minister, Lester Bird, delivered the opening address to the first ever Technology Festival (TechFest 2001) which opened at the Royal Antiguan Resort and Tennis Club on Monday. TechFest 2001 was the first of its kind to be held in the Caribbean and attracted companies such as Oracle, IBM, Cable and Wireless among others. Microsoft launched Windows XP, their newest and most powerful operating system for the first time in the Caribbean. Prime Minister Bird, who has responsibility for the development of informatics within CARICOM, created the International Technology Centre to provide the needed thrust to push Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the Caribbean into the international technological arena.

ICT Fest 2011

#2 Grenaz » 2011-10-12 23:47

ICT Fest is in its 7th year? WOW!

Well, I do believe a number of businesses display Security Cameras with offsite monitoring and storage every year. If that is so why the High Court is without Security Cameras? Why the govt don't get some Security Cameras to test?

Why the the Govt Ministries are not computerized in 2011? Yet for 7 yrs we bushing ICT, ICT,ICT ma foot. We are giving students and teachers laptops and all sectors of Govt can do well with those laptops to make the work load easier and stop having officers in the ministry of information duplicating pen and paper work. I have learn in School several yrs ago anything that is duplicated is a waste of time. Would you imagine the PS of that Ministry doesn't know that? Its not to say its a parallel system been worked on - manual system alone side electronic system its just a lack of ICT in the ministries of Information. What a joke. Is this okay with the Minister of information? Information is not just about cell phones and fiber-optic under the xxxx deals Mr. Minister and associates. I am shame of you and your Sr Minister. All ah u ministers should just go............. ............... ...
