The St John’s and All Saints Magistrate’s Courts have received new computers and laptops as part of the government’s efforts to modernize the judicial system's technology infrastructure.
The project is a part of the e-government modernization programme being executed through the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science and Technology.
Phase one of the project has seen 11 desktops and four laptops installed. Phase two will see computers installed for the bailiffs, cashiers, and receptionists in the upcoming months.
Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science and Technology Dr Edmond Mansoor said, “at the request of the Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh and with the support of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, the modernizing of the technology infrastructure at the St John’s and All Saints Magistrates’ Courts has begun.”
He noted, “The e-government modernization programme calls for the use of broadband technology in all areas of government, without exception, and that includes the Magistrate’s Court. Within the next 24 months, the electronic modernization government programme will see all district courts, all appendages of the Magistrate and the High Court systems receiving broadband technology and the requisite technology.”
