LIME Experiencing Major Network Difficulty

Major Network Difficulty Antigua St John's - A break in the LIME owned fibre optic cable system in the Southern Caribbean region has resulted in a major disruption in inbound and outbound mobile calls on LIME's network in Antigua and Barbuda and other neighbouring islands.

Incoming and outgoing International Direct Dial (IDD) calls, both from cell phones and fixed lines, have also been affected.

LIME has informed the Telecommunications Division that its team of engineers around the region is working to correct this problem.

Telecommunications Officer within the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science and Technology Clement Samuel said, “At approximately 10:20am, as the Telecommunications Officer I became aware that LIME customers were experiencing difficulties completing International Direct Dial (IDD) and mobile calls.”

“LIME General Manager Davidson Charles advised that the problem appears to be the direct result of a cable break on LIME’s Eastern Caribbean Fibre System (ECFS).

LIME engineers are presently working to re-route traffic and restore all services. At this time, there is no definitive estimate of the time frame in which all services will be restored.” He added.

They do if properly maintained, just like desalination plants, electrical generators and roads.

Tenman, I usually agree with your comments, but this time I am in complete disagreement. Think back to before Airtel and PCS arrived and remember the cost for cell phone services from Boatphone (C&W). Now, you want the only competitor to Digicel to leave? Without competition, we will be forced to accept any level of service and any price they lay on us. Not only does competition benefit all consumers (both LIME and Digicel customers) but it also affects many other aspects of society with both of them trying to out do the other by offering sponsorship to many different organisations and events.

time to bury the dead

I recall hearing a sermon some years ago where the pastor stated its best to bury the dead because they will stink up the place. Cable & Wireless operated as a monopoly for too long, it cannot compete. Its products and services are lousy. The change in name to Lime, they probably thought would help to change the culture, but the heart and brain is still the same. Look at how they did not even see it fit to respond to the issue on its cellular towers. Its best for them to sell and get out because all they are currently depending on is loyalty from customers who a long time ago realized they are being shafted.
