A one-day seminar on the impact of information and communication technologies in education in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held here next week.
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said that the September 15 forum will be held under the theme “Reinventing the Classroom: Social and Educational Impact of ICTs in Education.
It said that Uruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez will highlight the CEIBAL project, which has turned Uruguay into the only country in the world that has effectively achieved the “one laptop per child” goal of providing hardware for one-on-one computing in primary and secondary public education.
Nicholas Negroponte, the architect of the One Laptop per Child initiative, will speak at the event, as well as Microsoft’s Vice President for Technology Strategy and Policy, Anoop Gupta.
