Antigua St John's - National triathlon champion Andre Simon is setting his sights on even tougher fields after conquering the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run in Antigua & Barbuda’s first ever half-iron distance triathlon in January.
Simon, 24, who emerged the first national and second overall in the Jonathan Rohr Memorial Tinman triathlon, is now targeting the annual San Juan half-ironman triathlon in Puerto Rico on March 18.
The San Juan event, expected to attract roughly 3,000 athletes from across the world, including the world’s best triathletes, will be Simon’s toughest challenge.
Argentinean professional Claudio Delpeuche has been coaching Simon for almost eight months, and has tasked the young Antiguan with qualifying for an amateur spot in the half-iron world championships.

sive sport already, it really is difficult without that little extra help from the business community,” he said.
“I have put everything into this, so I am really hoping I don’t have to call off the race," he added. "I know it’s hard times for everyone, but if somebody does offer some help, it would really help me represent Antigua to my best."
