Tennis Players Off To Compete

D'jeri Raymond in Curacao 2011Antigua St John's - Two Antiguan-based junior tennis players will compete in upcoming major junior competitions in the United States.

Noah Peters will be competing in the Jr Orange Bowl, while D’Jeri Raymond will be competing in both the American Cup and Jr Orange Bowl.

The Jr Orange Bowl is a youth tennis tournament held in Coral Gables for 14 and under and 12 and under,  started in 1962. This competition is considered one of the major junior tournaments in the world, with over 1,300 players registered from all over the world. This year, the tournament will be celebrating 50 years.

This is Peters' first time competing in this competition, and Raymond’s second. Last year, Raymond competed in the 12 and under category, but this year both players will be competing in the 14-and-under category.

The American Cup, formally known as the Prince Cup, is another prestigious tournament which caters to juniors from around the world.

This tournament, along with the Eddie Herr held in November, serve as warm-up tournaments to the Jr Orange Bowl (12s and 14s) and the Orange Bowl International (16s and 18s) tournaments. Noah Peters in Bahamas 2011

Also competing in these major tournaments are Kyle Joseph and Jody Maginley, both based in Miami, Florida, and competing for Antigua & Barbuda.

Recent competitions contested by both junior players South Carolina ITF (USA), Evert American ITF(USA), Goombay Blash Bowl (BAH), and Eddier Herr (USA).

We wish all players representing Antigua & Barbuda in upcoming international tournaments the very best.
