Antigua St. John's - The Antigua & Barbuda National Female volleyball team got off to a winning start in the Eastern Caribbean Senior Women’s Volleyball Super-8 Championship being played here in the National Volleyball Complex at the YMCA.
Playing in the feature game on the night of the event, Antigua & Barbuda beat Anguilla in straight sets 3 games to nil - 25-19, 25-22 and 25-22. Dominica too had a winning start, beating Grenada also in straight sets 3 games to nil -25-19, 25-20 and 25-18. Earlier, St Kitts & Nevis beat St Vincent & the Grenadines 3 sets to 1.
The official opening ceremony got underway on Friday morning with all the teams present. Shortly afterwards, St Lucia beat the BVI in straight sets - 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19.
The tournament will climax on Sunday. The winner of this Super-8 will qualify for the Continental Female Championship in 2013, while the runner-up will qualify for the Caribbean Female Championship, also to be held next year at a time and venue to be announced.
