Antigua St. John's - On Thursday October 25 2012, the Office of the Sport Ministry hosted a special Award Banquet for former Permanent Secretary Mrs Eloise Sheppard, who recently retired after giving over 39 years of service in the public sector.
The evening's programme included a number of speakers who commended Mrs Sheppard not only for her service in the public sector but also her unquestioned commitment to family, church and community.
Accolades were delivered by former co-workers who served with Mrs Sheppard when she was assigned at the Treasury Department, by the Minister of State: Sports, Senior Technicians at the Ministry of Sports, National School Meals Service, family and friends.
Mrs Paulette Otto, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered the biography which provided a brief overview of the 39 years of service of the distinguished public servant.
Prime Minister Hon Dr Baldwin Spencer, who was unable to join Mrs Sheppard and her family due to other pressing matters, stated: "I have known Mrs Sheppard to be a hard worker and one who is committed not just to her task, but who strives to lift everyone around her. I thank her for contribution to nation building and wish her the very best.”
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Retirement Award to Mrs Sheppard by the Minister of State with responsibility for Sports, Sen Hon Winston Williams Jr, who read the following inscription on the plaque prior to its presentation to Mrs. Sheppard:
“As you retire, keep a firm grip on your perspective towards life,
Life is not measured so much by the quantity of days, but by the quality
Bring your all to bear upon the coming days of your life,
So that each day will be the fulfillment of a hope, a dream…. “
Mrs. Sheppard is married with three daughters and a granddaughter.
