ITF Completes Coaching Workshop

Antigua st. john's - The ABTA on Thursday saw the departure of the regional coaches after a seven (7) day long coaching workshop.  

This workshop included coaches from Aruba, Barbados, Dominica, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Bonaire and host country Antigua & Barbuda.

This specific theme course was the first of its kind in our region, welcoming ITF Tutor Karl Davies.  The workshop's aim was to ensure that our coaches both in Antigua and the region are equipped with the information needed for traveling with top juniors, and also finding ways to facilitate their long term development.

Over the seven day period the coaches were given the opportunity to coach our junior players while being assessed.  The assessment was done through every stage of an athlete’s development (Red court - red ball, Orange court - orange ball, Green court - green dot, intermediate players and advanced players.)

The coaches were encouraged to  take what they learned back to their respective clubs to aid in the overall development of their national athletes.

The Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association thanks Olympic Solidarity and the National Olympic Committee for their support of this effort.

Without their financial support the workshop would not have been possible.

We also thank Halcyon by Rex Resort for offering favourable rates to the coaches, and thank the Halcyon Tennis Club for making their courts
available for the afternoon on court sessions.

Last but by no means least we thank the Ministry of Sports for assisting with the duty concessions for equipment needed to facilitate the workshop.
