International Cycling Union President Sends Message

Cliff Wlliams and UCI President Pat McQuaidAntigua St. John's - It is with great pleasure that I send you this short message on the occasion of the Caribbean Cycling Federation Congress.

It gives me the opportunity to congratulate you and thank you for all the work you carry out for sport throughout the Caribbean.

The fact that more than 20 countries were represented at the 12th edition of the Caribbean Cycling Championships this weekend only goes to show that cycling is healthy in this region. And that is thanks in large part to all those present at the Congress who work so hard to develop and promote cycling in their own countries.

Since the beginning of my Presidency at the International Cycling Union, I have made the globalisation of our sport one of my priorities. For me, it is extremely important that people all over the world discover the beauty of cycling whether they are competitors, fans, leisure cyclists or simply those who use their bike as a means of transport. To achieve this, I need to be able to rely on the leaders of our sport in different parts of the world. In the Caribbean I know I have that support.

This year, Antigua provided a magical backdrop for the time trials and road races at the Caribbean Championships. It was the biggest cycling event ever to be held here and will put the spotlight on this beautiful island.

I am sure that all those present at the Congress today found it gratifying to see the best cyclists from the region gather here on this important occasion. I know that the athletes gave their very best during the two days of competition. I know also that the Congress members will continue to support these athletes, our sport and its development.

My thanks go to you all.

Pat McQuaid
President
International Cycling Union.

The riders still riding for $100.00 (or some little stupid money like that) while the "executive still fly around the world in luxury"? What a joke!!!
