Scrubo Pineapple Individual Time Trial

Final domestic race on SundayAntigua St. John's - The Antigua & Barbuda Cycling Association will host its final domestic race on Sunday 7th October in preparation for the region’s flagship event, Inet Caribbean Cycling Championships.

The Annual Scrubo Pineapple Individual Time Trial will stage on Sunday but will run on a different course from the usual course used for Scrobo’s event. The Association will do an exact run of the course selected for the Inet Caribbean Cycling Time Trial route.

The event will start at 9:30am on the road east of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and head out unto Factory road, Mount Joy Roundabout, Jonas road, to All Saints Village, turn following the same route back onto Factory road, North Sound, down to Police Recreation Grounds where the riders will turn and head back up Factory road, through the road surrounding Sir Viv Stadium for 2 laps ending back at the start/finish.

Sunday’s event will be the final selection process for both the Road and Individual Time Teams. The announcement of the teams will take place on Monday 8th October. Robert Marsh, Jyme Bridges and Marvin Spencer have secured their spot on the Time Trial team 3 weeks ago when the Association hosted a TT qualifier where the 3 met the Standard.

Sunday’s event will be the determining factor for the 4th and final spot on the Individual Team. The riders need to complete the 24 mile course in less than one hour. Robert Marsh completed the course in 56 minutes, but Sunday’s event will run from a different location in a harder terrain and will be more challenging to get up in speed.

The riders expected for Sunday are Marvin Spencer, Andre Simon, Dale Richardson, Omari King, Ken Jackson, Ashley Rhodes, Clint Henry, Brian Lyn, Walton Francis, Patrick Peters and Garfield Henry.

B-Class, Juniors and Females will go for 1 lap of the 12 mile course. This will be the distance of the Caribbean Championships females event. Unfortunately, Tamiko Butler will not compete on Sunday as she is presently competing in the Tobago Classic Cycling event. However, National selectees Kevinia Francis and Lindsay Duffy will have their battle in the final race of the season.

The Juniors will also display their talent, as this will start early preparation for next year’s Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships which is expected to take place as early as February 2013 in Belize. The riders of B-Class will wrap up their season on Sunday as this event will also be used to establish who will be promoted to the A-Class.
