Jr Tennis Meets Draw to a Close

junior tennis players are back on home soilAntigua St. John's - After a long, competitive summer abroad, junior tennis players are back on home soil.

While some are relishing their successes from participating in at least four tournaments, no doubt the experiences can be cherished as learning curves for the group.

Jody Maginley and his doubles partner Alex Rybakov (USA) were unsuccessful in their bid for a spot in the finals of the SVG Junior international tournament as they were ousted by #3 seeded doubles team of William Flavell (GBR)/Stephan FrlJanic (CAN) 6-3, 6-4.

In the under 14 competition Jessica Issac exited the girls singles semifinals after a three-set defeat by Nicola Ramdyhan (GUY) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

After receiving a bye into the doubles semifinals competition, Isaac and her partner Luka Lyttle (VIN) but lost ground when they came up against Denee Lyttle and Chelsea Haslam (VIN), losing  6-4, 4-6 (5-10).

In the boys consolation singles competition, Justice Christopher also lost his ground in his quarterfinals consolation match, going down Luke Browne (VIN) 4-1, 4-2.

Meantime, junior players Shakir Elvin and D'Jeri Raymond move on to the Tobago ITF tournament which is scheduled to start qualifiers on Saturday, August 18.

Special commendations to the National Olympic Committee for their support of these juniors and their commitment to continue in their development; the parents who know the benefits of these juniors competing at this high level; Mrs. Erica Williams who has been coach, mother and chaperone for these athletes; the Ministry of Sports for assisting with tax exemptions; and Raeburn's Generator Services who came on board to assist D'Jeri Raymond in her time of need.
