Five to Compete in JITIC

Five to Compete in JITICAntigua St. John’s - Antigua & Barbuda is being represented by five players in what is dubbed the competition for future champions of the region the Junior International Tennis Championships (JITIC) which will be held in El Salvador.

JITIC is considered the most prestigious junior event held by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for the region.

This competition will serve off on July 28th, 2012 with Under-16 player Shakir Elvin, and Under-14 players D'Jeri Raymond, Jessica Isaac, Cordell Williams Jr. and Justice Christopher.

All the players are in top form, with Raymond successfully completing three weeks of competition in Aruba and Jamaica, Williams Jr and Christopher competing in the Wilson Cup but though not successful, have played a high level of tennis preparing them for this prestigious event.

Elvin, a top-ranked national Under 18 player is preparing in to make his tennis  a force to be reckoned with, and Isaac, another a top ranked national Under 14 player working vigorously on the practice courts to make her presence felt.

The team managers/captains are Erica Williams and Dianne Hillhouse.

“It was a difficult feat in putting this team together, because of our limitations with players of the required age categories and also with securing the required funding to get the time to this event,” the Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association (ABTA) said in a release.

“The ABTA must say a heartfelt thank you to the NOC (National Olympic Committee) for coming on board and recognising that without competitions like this our juniors will be at a disadvantage in their overall development.”

The team is scheduled to leave Antigua on Friday, July 27.
