Antigua St. John’s – The Antigua & Barbuda Olympic Committee will, like the rest of the world, celebrate Olympic Day under the theme, “Move, Learn and Discover”.
This year’s activities will be held from 2 pm on Sunday, June 24 and will feature the traditional Fun Run/Ride/Walk around St. John’s and a new innovation: a 10K relay run and ride, also around the city. The starting point for both activities will be in front the Olympic Office on Redcliffe Street.
Simultaneously, the committee will also be hosting a 5K run on the sister isle, Barbuda.
First celebrated in 1948, this year’s Olympic Day celebrations take place exactly 35 days before the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Olympics in London, England. The Games are already creating much excitement across the globe and Olympic Day 2012 will serve to further excite, motivate and trigger the interest of our sport loving nation, especially the youth.
Olympic Day 2012 provides an opportunity for physical activity for persons of all ages while facilitating Antigua & Barbuda’s participation in a global celebration of Olympic Ideals -- sports and values.
The Antigua & Barbuda Olympic Committee invites and anticipates mass participation from schools, clubs, national associations, workplaces, health and fitness enthusiasts, church groups, the elderly, pregnant mothers to name a few.
Olympic Day 2012 promises to be a truly national event with prizes for such categories as youngest participant, oldest participant, largest family, and best turned out work place, etc.
