Major Cycling Events in June

momentummag.com photoAntigua St john's - The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will host a 16-mile individual time trial on Sunday June 3.

After being forced to make a change to the calendar event, the 2012 Top Ranking National Road Championships is now scheduled for June 24. The event will start at 3 pm at the popular cycling venue, in front of the Police Recreation Grounds (PRG).

This event is among the most exciting on the 2012 calendar. The Individual Time Trials attracts the largest spectator turnout, and tops all others in participant and crowd support. The course will take the riders up Factory Road, to North Sound, to the Mount Joy Round a-bout, twice, before finishing back at the PRG.

The island’s best riders are expected to participate, including National Time Trial Champion and National Sportsman Robert Marsh and National Female Time Trial Champion and National Female Sportswoman Tamiko Butler.

Challenges will come from former TT National Champion and winner of the last race Marvin Spencer, along with Jyme Bridges, Dale Richardson, Neil Lloyd, Garfield Henry, and Ken Jackson.

In the B-Class, it will be Walton Francis, Tesheed Gordon, Mervin Gore, St Clair Williams, Ashley Rhoades, and Ashfield Vigo.

The battle of the females will include Lindsay Duffy and Kevinia Francis, while the Juniors class will feature Tristan Matthew and Jaleel Cannonier, and future stars Joel Phillip and Nigel Fabian.

On June 24, the association will host the 2012 Top Ranking 66-mile National Road Cycling Championships.

The race will start at 9:30 am in front of the Top Ranking store on Old Parham Road. The riders will head up Old Parham Road, onto Airport Road, to Hodges Bay, Cedar Grove, Longfords Road, Friars Hill Road, Cross Street, and back onto Old Parham Road for six laps, finishing back in front of Top Ranking Store.

The public was invited to come out and support their village cyclists as they vie for the most prestigious title and the ABI Insurance National Champion trophy.

The association also asked all motorists for their co-operation on the route while the race is in progress.
