Antigua St John's - Antigua Girls' High School student Kayla Harris recently became the second Antiguan to win the prestigious Caribbean Optimist Oratorical Contest.
Harris, along with Chandera Codrington, also of the Antigua Girls' High School, and Arthur Thomas of the Antigua Grammar School, travelled to Jamaica to represent Antigua & Barbuda against other regional winners. Harris beat out a total of nine female finalists to walk away with the title.
Thomas, meanwhile, was adjudged third place in the male category. While Codrington presented admirably, she did not place among the top three.
The annual competition is put on by the Caribbean district of Optimist International.
