The Greenbay Hoppers FC, without the services of coach Vaughn “Pop-T” James, who had to miss the contest due to his outstanding matter with the discipline committee, were back in the winners’ circle with a 2-0 victory over newcomers Goldsmitty on Saturday.
The much-needed victory carried Hoppers to 13 points and into the fourth spot in the standings as they seek to stay in the hunt for Premiership glory, while Goldsmitty, who won their last two outings, remain on seven points after eight showings as well.
Midfielder Tamarley “Ziggy” Thomas opened the scoring for Hoppers in minute 71 when he scored a beauty from an acute angle, striking the ball with his left boot before watching it fly into the back of the net. Omarie Daniel added a second goal in the 90th minute when he ran onto a cross to put the ball into the back of the net.
The victory would come as some relief to the Hoppers men, who have struggled in their last three outings to get it right.
Meanwhile, Coach James is expected to know his fate today when the ABFA’s disciplinary committee hands down its verdict on a matter involving BASSA defender Edlorn “Judgment” Williams and the Hoppers coach.
