Inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) currently enrolled in the ongoing football rehabilitation programme will be given another opportunity to display their skills on Saturday when they take on the Fort Road FC in a friendly encounter at the Fort Road playing field starting at 2 pm.

This is according to chief organizer of the programme, “Tamo” Grant, who said the players are looking toward the upcoming match with a high degree of enthusiasm.

“The players are really excited to have yet another opportunity to go out and showcase their skills on the field," he said. "They were very well received the last two matches at the Antigua Recreation Grounds, and now that they will be going into a community they are even more excited."

Grant, who is also a player in the local football league, says the programme, which he started two years ago, is already yielding favourable results.

“I have seen improvement, and not only in the level of skills the guys display, but also where the discipline is concerned, and that’s the most important factor," he said. "In our last match (against Empire) we didn’t have one foul go against us and that in itself is a good achievement."

The HMP team, in their last two outings, maintained a 100 percent record, with their last being a 2-0 victory over LIME Empire at the ARG two Sundays ago. The team has also been well received by the public, who have been turning in their numbers in support of the programme.

According to Grant, his programme is designed to re-introduce the participants to society in a positive light, while giving them the opportunity to realize that they can still be accepted by society and can make a contribution.
