Urlings FC robbed former Premier Division contenders Freeman’s Village of two points on Saturday when a goalkeeper error, which came late in their First Division showdown at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG), resulted in a 1-1 draw after Village had led the contest for almost 80 minutes.
The Freemans Village custodian, who had enjoyed a good day between the uprights, had seemingly covered what should have been a routine take, but to the surprise of both his teammates and the spectators, allowed the ball to slip from his grasp and into the back of the net.
The goal, which came in minute 83, nullified a 17th minute header from defender Coy Hunte to put Freeman’s Village ahead early in the anticipated showdown. The results however mean that both teams move on to nine points, with Urlings playing six matches and Freeman’s Village five. A victory for either team would have taken them to 11 points and within the top four as the battle for promotion to the top flight continues.
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s lone Premier Division contest, All Saints United won a fourth straight match as they jumped to 12 points after six showings. The All Saints men defeated Potters Tigers by a 1-0 margin as they jumped, temporarily, to second on the standings.
