Head of Football Medics Team Resigns in Protest

Head of Football Medics Team Resigns in ProtestAntigua St. John's - Head of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association Medics Team, Devon Joseph, has resigned from the job in protest against the election fiasco on December 20th 2012.

Joseph, who headed the Medics Team in premier division matches for the past 12 years, resigned with immediate effect.

Speaking to Caribarena, Joseph said he resigned on principle, because what he saw at that annual general meeting of the Association on Thursday night was nothing less than despicable behavior to undermine the principles of fairness.

Joseph said he has witnessed more than 10 elections of the Association, and this was the worst he has ever seen. He has denounced as being in very poor taste, what he sees as extreme actions designed to bring down one person so that another could remain in office.

He noted that just as the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda holds a person to be innocent until proven guilty, the Constitution of the Football Association is clear that once a person has no previous conviction, that person has a right to contest elections to the executive.

Joseph said on the basis of such principles it would be difficult for him to support something that was unfair. He also claimed that the Association is indebted to his team for an undisclosed amount of money.

He said he has stuck with the Association through good and bad times, but this one is too much to swallow.

Question

ALL TALK

#12 Colin » 2012-12-29 01:16

Will all the talk about controversial elections be just that? ALL TALK? Will we just stumble along because we really do not care who runs football as long as we can play some football on substandard fields and somehow participate in regional and world tournamants? Do the clubs understand? Do the clubs care? Are the clubs real clubs with "financial" members? Or are they groups of people who play football and maybe become "financial" the day before elections, as happens in many a sporting "club"?
It is high time the football clubs get really serious and organise themselves and DEMAND accountability from the FA. In the same way that citizens should have a knowledge of the constitution of Antigua And Barbuda, all football clubs should have an executive that is familiar with the FA's constitution. All concerned would then know the correct procedures, and NOBODY would be able to "hijack" elections.
Can the NOC intervene in anyway in this matter? Should the Minister of Sports get involved? I think he should! Those who said they are seeking legal advice ........ we await your next move. Let us settle this quickly and move on, lest our football retrogresses.

Dadliman! Wilmouth and Bauldwin did not run the national election. They were not in charge of the voting system. Banks and Bataw were in charge of football election and the voting. Big difference. It is a travesty and a disgrace. I am shocked that Antiguans are not clamouring for them to step aside. How in the world could they be getting away with this? Have we become a nation that is tolerant of such xxxxx. Again, the minister of sports should intervene in the matter. Then again, he has no oxal compass. Therefore, he is afraid to touch the issue in fear it will only high light his personal problems. Banks and Bataw will do anything to hold on to that power. Actually, this is not about football. This is about using the vehicle of football to x their x. This is cowardly. They seriously believe Antiguans are stupid and will accept anything. Where is the church while all this is going on? The church should be speaking out against all injustices not just selected injustices. Than again, this may not matter to the church for there is no financial gain in it for them. God bless them all.

A democratic election must be not only free and fair but also seen to be free and fair. (ipu.org)
Its amazing to see the hypocrites at work. The ones before 2004 who touted democracy and change. I gather that the trappings of power, have now blinded their past verbalized ethics.

I applaud Devon for the stance taken. Devon is my good buddy and I am left stunned by his action. Devon is willing to hold Bataw and Banks to a standard to which he fails to hold Wilmoth and Baldwin.

Devon, I thank ABFA for opening your eyes. I want to see you to continue to right wrongs - where ever the wrongs are found.

Sad State of Affairs

#2 Dr. Dredd » 2012-12-28 09:29

What a poor state we are in. When a successful and qualified Team has to xxx an election to stay in power, something must be wrong with our society. But National Elections prove that, why should football be any different? How could this President have a problem beating a failed, Stx Cx operator with NO evidence of success in anything he has ever done?

Examination

#1 Watchful » 2012-12-28 07:39

There appears to be a general if not a national loss of confidence in the present football executive which was contraversally re-elected on December 20th 2012.

The future of football in Antigua is at stake, and for the betterment of the sport, perhaps the Olympic association should be called in to help adjudicate this matter, since it is obvious there is confusion in the football fraternity! closer examination must be made of what happend at that last election, to determine the legitimacy of the governance of the organisation,.
