Antigua St. John's - The bottom-placed team in the ABFA IMOBILE Premier Division Football managed to hold one of the front-runners, Sugar Ridge SAP, to a one-all draw as the competition reaches the halfway stage.
Willikies sits at the bottom of the 10-team standings with only two points from 9 matches. In the feature game on Saturday, Winston ‘Sprocket’ Roberts scored in the 23rd minute of play to draw level after SAP’s Karanja Mack’s 15th minute goal.
However Willikies had no one to blame but themselves for not winning the game, due to the numerous chances they wasted.
Sugar Ridge ended their first round on 20 points.
In the earlier encounter, Education for Advancement BASSA easily beat Sea View Farm 3 goals to nil. Lennox ‘Fox’ Julian scored for BASSA in the 39th minute, Bernardo Milford in the 44th minute and Deshawn Browne in the 86th minute to give BASSA that easy victory. BASSA now moves to 15 points from their 9 matches, while Sea View Farm remains on 5 points from their 9 matches.
Champion Footwear Green Bay Hoppers ended the first round on top of the standings with 23 points after beating Paradise Boat Sales Fort Road 5 Goals to 1 in the first match of a triple header on Sunday. Tamarley ‘Ziggy’ Thomas, Kareem Wilson, Eugene Kirwan, Jamal Samuel and Rolston Lexie Phoenix all scored a goal each for Hoppers, while Alren Lewis scored the lone goal for Fort Road.
Defending Champions Lime Old Road can end on 22 points -- one behind Hoppers -- if they can beat Asots Arcade Parham in their last encounter.
