Antigua St. John's - A double strike by Firrmley Barthley helped Young Warriors to come from 2-0 down to earn a deserved 2-2 draw with Tryum in the ABFA Second Division on Monday.
Barthley, who netted four times in Warriors previous game, twice broke clear of the opposition defence to strike two clinical finishes with his right and left foot.
The strongly-built forward brought Warriors back into the game seconds after they went 2-0 down, when he powered onto a through pass as he outpaced a defender on a saturated and sticky outfield before hammering a left-footed drive low into the far corner.
Twenty-year-old Barthley netted his sixth goal of the season early in the second half when he again latched onto another probing pass and arrowed a shot across the goalkeeper’s body for the equalizer.
Warriors made a bad start when Tryum capitalized on slack defending from a corner to take the lead within the first 60 seconds. An attempted cross by Bennie Hodge eluded Warriors’ keeper Garrett Thomas and found the net.
The home side extended their advantage when Warriors again failed to clear their lines properly, and a Tryum player pounced on the loose ball to slot it home under Thomas’ body midway through the first period.
But Warriors hit back within less than a minute, as Barthley scored his first. As the visitors continued to press they keep Tryum under constant pressure until the predatory instincts of Barthley came to the fore again.
Warriors can feel hard done by, as the referee ignored at least three strong incidents for penalties when players were either tripped up or held back in the penalty area.
Warriors next play on October 22, away to Golden Grove at 4:20pm
