Antigua St. John’s - Young Warriors had to settle for a goal-less draw against Shotgun as they deservedly earned a point in their first match of the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) season on Wednesday at St. Johnston’s Village Sports Complex.
Although the youngsters enjoyed the greater possession and created the better chances, they were unable to find the back of the net in the highly competitive game.
Shotgun also had their chances but they failed to seriously challenge the Warriors’ goalkeeper, Garrett Thomas.
Warriors had two presentable chances early in the game to take the lead, but Irwin Richards shot tamely to the goalkeeper with his first effort and then dragged another attempt wide of the near post when shooting at the far post was a better option.
As it turned out, Shotgun’s goalkeeper Samuel Watley proved to be the difference between his team’s conceding and Young Warriors scoring.
Midway through the first half, Watley came off his line to block Firmley Barthley’s shot as the Warriors’ striker was put through.
