Antigua St. John’s - Old Road needed a last-minute goal while Bullets experienced no such drama as both teams recorded hard-fought 2-1 victories to advance to the final of the Warriors Cup 2012 on Sunday at the John Hughes Playing Field.
The Premier Division champions recorded a come-from-behind win over Swetes in the first semi-final on Saturday at the same venue and the Pigotts men scored twice in the second-half to end the hopes of Celtics, formerly Goldsmitty, who had beaten Bullets in the 2010 final.
Old Road, who had to score six consecutive penalties to overcome 5Ps in the quarter-finals last Wednesday, found Swetes no easy pushover as the “home side” scored first through Keiran Richards in the 22nd minute to lead 1-0 at the interval.
Richards wasted another good opportunity to put Swetes in command before the break as Old Road found it difficult to cope with their opponents’ fast-paced game.
However, Old Road profited from a huge slice of luck a minute into the second half when an innocuous shot by Micah Chatham squeezed past goalkeeper Kareem Richards at his near-post to earn the South men the equaliser.
The game ebbed and flowed from end to end until the stroke of full-time when Vidal Francis rose to head home the clincher to break the hearts of the 2011 finalists and their supporters.
