Antigua St John's - The newly appointed Roman Catholic bishop's call for the decriminalization of buggery is not finding favour with other church leaders.
Since Bishop Kenneth Richards' statement on radio last Friday, at least one church leader, Rev Carlwin Greenaway, superintendent of the Methodist Church, has distanced himself from the suggestion.
Now, chairman of the Provincial Elders Conference of the Eastern West Indies Province of the Moravian Church, Rev Dr Cortroy Jarvis, also wants to disagree.
“I am surprised that we seem to be re-introducing things that I thought we had settled long ago," he said. "I totally disagree with the call to decriminalize buggery, for I feel that once that happens, it would open up the door to a lot of other things."
Rev Jarvis added that should buggery be removed as a criminal act, this would open the door for homosexuality to "raise its head" in the open with boldness.
“You cannot control what happens in a person’s bedroom, but there has to be a moral compass for our society," he said. "People should know what acceptable behaviour is and what is not."
The PEC chairman noted that the Bible is very clear on the issue of homosexuality. “In Leviticus 20 verse 13 it states: 'If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall be put to death: their blood shall be upon them.' While I think the second part of the passage is harsh in today’s context, it shows the seriousness with which the subject is treated from a biblical perspective,” Rev Jarvis explained.
He added that the "real picture," as stated in the Bible, is for a man and a woman, and not man and man. He does not see any justification for repealing the laws.
“I don’t see any open discrimination against homosexuals in the society," the reverend said. "We have been living with them amongst us for a long time. Because adultery was illegal at one time and now it is not, is not a strong enough justification in my view."
According to Rev Jarvis, if the laws against buggery were lifted, this would strike a "serious blow" against morality. “We have enough serious problems to contend with in the country than to consider things such as lifting the laws against buggery,” he said.

Romans 14:13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way
You cannot 'pick & choose' you are either true to the entire word or shut the )(*^#$#@# up.

Those of you who feel you have the right to discriminate for religious purposes please note...
Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Luke 6:41 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Romans 2:1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

Then bloggers like "MauMau" are gonna attack me and call me a washed up politician because I talk about gay priest in the USA taking advantage of choir boys. I don't know if he realised but Lester Baldwin is the name of our 2 main political leaders. My original name on Caribarena was "George Lester Baldwin Bird" in tribute to all our leaders name but the new Caribarena set-up only allowed a certain amount of letters in the name now ... so I don't know where he got the "washed up politician" from. I never ever got one check out of the treasury of Antigua & Barbuda so I don't sing for my super either!!!

In replay to "ANTIGUAN WOMAN"
Imagine what would have happened if right minded, just people didn't take a stand regarding slavery, you wouldn't have the right to post such a comment, as you would have been left an unedified person. But really, there is no difference to how you are now.

On the fence
On the other hand, as a sovereign nation we should be entitled to keep whichever laws our populace feels appropriate. The 'West' has their own countries and can do whatever they wish there. Can't they leave us with our 108 sq miles to do as we please, or must they lord over that as well? I'd be fine with whatever outcome a popular referendum produced.

Anything else against that would be "given over to reprobated minds", and "the total wipe out of nations/civilis ations" at a time convenient the Almighty. Yes, the Almighty's Love is "Forgiving", Long Suffering" but its also mingled with "Wrath", "Consequences" and "Punishment" for the negative paths we as nations, civilisations or man takes.
Can you find 10 "Righteous People"?
And, be very careful with that question, for there is a very thin line with being a "Good People" and being a "Righteous People".
A Good person pays their taxes, treat his family good, turns his/her eyes away from what doesnt concerns him and lives by the law of the land but a "Righteous person" surp** all of that, stands up and states he stands with that which is "right" not that which is "correct" and of course this puts the person infavor with the Almithy morning, noon and night!
In these days we are given either "right?" or "correct?" Were are the 10???

“I don’t see any open discrimination against homosexuals in the society,"
So if the discrimination is quiet and on the down low,its okay?
Kudos to Bishop Richards for having the courage to to speak out against an archaic law which can legally be perverted to beat up on a section of our society. We need to be all equal in the eyes of the law (unless of coursewe don't pay our taxes)
The bible has been uses to justify a lot of crimes in the past- including slavery.
-Slavery
However, you may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you- leviticus 25 vs 44-46
Adultery
No whoremonger, no unclean person hath an inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God - Ephesians 5 vs 5
Are we going to apply the bible blindly and beat up on the brotthers and sisters who have been born a little different. I don't think that I want to do that. Yes,showing tolerance and love for all your fellow humans can be hard sometimes, but speaking for me - intolerance and hate - thats not the way that I want to go.
