Social Work Week Underway

Church-serviceAntigua St John's - Social workers have been encouraged to accept their jobs as a calling and a ministry of love for others.

This was one of the points brought out at a service of thanksgiving at the Zion Church of God on North Street marking the start of Social Services Week under the theme “Social Work matters”.

While delivering the sermon, Pastor Ivor Davis notes that the work of social workers should be driven by love for the people.

He says they must be commended as they are involved in one of the best jobs ever and as they serve those around them they are serving God. Pastor Davis points out that only Jesus can provide the answers to all our problems.

According to Parliamentary Secretary with responsibility for the Ministry of Social Transformation Senator Malaka Parker, social workers have an irreversible and invaluable role to play in building the nation.

She says they become implements for social justice and social change and give life to the many programmes of the ministry.

Joining the Ministry of Social Transformation at the service of thanksgiving were the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Senior Citizens and the National Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabilities.
