Some suspected that he may have been "...possessed, controlled and directed by forces of evil ; ...some referred to him as a hero, while in the movie-like spectacle, others called his ferocious commando-styled operations "...Rambo Vendetta."
Even if Christopher Dorner had entertained legitimate claims of “...inequality and harbored feelings of injustice,” none may laud his criminal exploits. He had seemingly become “...frustrated, angry, bitterly and savagely hostile” to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and former colleagues.
Thus, he had developed a propensity for violence that seemed to have overpowered his “...will, sanity and rationality,” with limited respect for the “...Sanctity of Life.” Clearly, he had demonstrated that “...only those directly or indirectly” connected to the LAPD were his enemies. This was evidenced by those he had spared the wrath of his blazing gun. Notwithstanding, “...stepping over the line of civility and responsible human behavior,” he had brought immense “...shock and awe” to many families; ...peaceful communities and all law abiding people. Mounting “...Rambo-like operations,” he had forced many, including the LAPD into a state of panic, leaving families in “...anguish and pain; ...sorrow and unbearable grief.”
EDGE OF DEATHHad Chris Dorner survived the inferno, as it has been at present, he may not have claimed “...legitimacy and/or justification” for his deadly atrocities. For ten days of “...terror, horror, hell and fury,” the focus was on “...Officer Protection, safety and/or survival,” but more specifically that of terrified innocent residents. During the period, there were “...uneasiness, uncertainty and anxiety.” Whether or not in hot pursuit, Chris Dorner wanted the blood of LAPD officers. Thus, the fugitive had placed every officer at the “...EDGE OF DEATH.” This was made demonstrably clear to Law enforcement officials with the gunning down of several officers. Thus, the San Bernardino County, its Sheriff and Deputies and surrounding areas were virtually placed under “...lock down.” This was a means of averting the unprovoked wrath of the “...elusive and deadly” Christopher Dorner. Far more important, however, was bringing an end to his “...deadly criminal exploits.”
UNEXPRESSED METHODOLOGIESIt was the understanding that “...Fire was to be fought with fire,” and implicit in operations of such magnitude, a determined LAPD Chief Charlie Beck had “...unexpressed methodologies” in ending the “...criminal exploits” of a former subordinate Law enforcement officer. Thus, as in “...Jungle Warfare,” this was achievable by any means necessary-“...conventional and/or unconventional.” Seemingly, acting judiciously, Chief Beck, announcing the US$1.2M reward, had stopped short in according him the historical “...Jesse James Outlaw Poster ...Wanted-Dead or Alive.” However, once Chris Dorner’s whereabouts were known the outcome of his “...life and adventurism” were “...foregone conclusions.” They knew not when or where he may have struck, and like the residents of surrounding communities they too were left cowering in constant fear.
RESOURCE UTILIZATIONAs a consequence, the LAPD was forced into “...necessitous utilization of all available resources-“...men, money and machines.” Mounting what was indisputably described as a massive manhunt in the agency’s history, it sought to end the intended carnage of a dangerous fugitive. It had planned its contingencies in dealing solely with the “...danger and imminent threat” posed by Christopher Dorner, posting a reward of US$1.2 million dollars to the public for “...information leading to his whereabouts.” Holed up in the mountain in a wooden cabin and reportedly trading gunfire with Law enforcement, that was all the “...On Scene Incident Commanders” (OSIC) needed in causing the rapid deployment of the specially trained tactical unit or “...SWAT” team, the LAPD’s “...Special Weapons and Tactics” team. Known worldwide for its “...Tactical Exploits,” there was always the possibility of SWAT using both “...conventional and/or unconventional methodologies” in arresting, not necessarily the “...physical person of Chris Dorner,” but the prevailing situation.
FUGITIVE REIGN OF TERRORThere were to be immediate mobilization and deployment of the SWAT Team. Its primary purpose was “...Rapid Response” in addressing, inter alia, “...barricades; ...hostage taking; ...suicide interventions and subduing violent suspects that were considered “...beyond the capabilities of the normally trained and equipped personnel” [Wikipedia]. Hence, with the deployment of the “...requisite equipment, men, land-based machines and hovering crafts,” the team’s objectives were clear in their engagement. Firefights with Special Weapons” were inevitable, with optional use of “...Incendiary Devices,” including “...Fiery Canisters.” With such resources at the team’s disposal, there was no need for “...Hand or foot-cuffs; ...Trials by Grand Jury or ...Penitentiary Residency.” Then on the cold snowy afternoon of February 12, 2013, in twisted fate, Christopher Jordan Dorner’s “...life and fugitive reign of terror ended dramatically in an inferno that had “...prompted media speculations over his fiery death.”
CS2 CANNISTERSFrom knowledge and practical experience, and in providing an academic understanding, these Canisters were known by Law enforcement to have “...contained special chemicals that ultimately cause fires.” In actuality, they were “...missiles containing flammable substances that on impact causes fires.” They contain a compound called “...2 Chlorenzalmalonitrite.” This was first introduced by “...Ben Corson and Roger Stoughton” [1928]. It was developed in the United Kingdom in the 1950’s/1960’s [Wikipedia], purposefully for “...controlling riotous conduct or widespread public disorder.” Using their surnames, Law enforcement community called it “...CS2.”
CONDITIONSThe contents were intended to bring about conditions in humans of “...Sneezing; ...uncontrolled coughing; ...temporary blindness with persistent burning of eyes and epidermis; ...vomiting; and ...urinating.” In asthmatic cases, it was known to have caused “...restrictive breathing and death.” Research showed that it had brought about the death of “...Jawaher Abu Rahman” [Israel: Dec. 31, 2010] and several protesters in Egypt [Nov. 2011]. The flammability nature of which necessitated cool temperature for the avoidance of “...spontaneous combustion.” They are most effective in large crowds and enclosed areas. Thus, in ideal conditions and fuel, such as “...Wooden Cabins,” they were known to have developed into a “...raging inferno” with the capability of reducing humans to ashes.
BILLOWING BLACK SMOKELate in the afternoon of February 12, 2013, some forty members of the SWAT Team surrounded a wooden cabin in which fugitive Christopher Dorner were said to have been trapped, the end of the manhunt was virtually over. The media reported the eruption of a gun battle between the occupant and the SWAT Team. For a while nothing was shown as the media’s cooperation was reportedly solicited. When the live coverage resumed, satellite imagery showed black smoke billowing skyward from the wooden cabin. Shortly, thereafter flames spectacularly ascended skyward, adorning and illuminating the dark clouds hovering over the snowy-Bear Lake Mountain of Southern California. The brightened skies were clearly not intended to show who were, or likely to emerge from the fiery cabin.
RAY OF HOPEFor all intents and purposes, it had been deliberately transformed into a “...fiery furnace,” yet clearly not for the purpose of producing warmth to possible occupants. If nothing else, Law enforcement had seen a” Silver Lining.” Thus, it had brought them more that a “...Ray of Hope. Something terrible was about to happen and seemingly, there was no remorse. None was expressed by the LAPD. It was an opportune time to end the escapade of a gun-toting fugitive. With raging fire that may have been mechanically extinguished, “...operable fire-engines and/or aerial crafts, frequently used in “...extinguishing California brushfires; ...replenished with extinguishing agents,” remained unutilized. Law enforcement and Fire Marshalls, on scene, in offices or at home, watched intensely the final hours of a dangerous and deadly fugitive.” For them the manhunt and investigation were over. For Chris Dorner, his days of terror were finite.
FATEFUL DAYOn the fateful day, Christopher Dorner suffered the consequences of his actions, but seemingly through an ignominious “...Fiery Death of organizational orchestration”. Likened to all other workplaces, there may be lessons, not only for the LAPD, but also Law enforcement agencies worldwide. In most Commonwealth jurisdictions, this may necessitate a “...Coroner’s Inquest or a Public Inquiry” in determining inter alia “...Criminal culpability or Misadventure.” Incidentally, Lester Lloyd Coke, father of Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, said to be an emboldened killer, drug dealer reportedly died in a fire at a Jamaican prison cell in “...unexplained circumstances.” He was awaiting extradition to the US” [Jamaica Observer: Feb.2, 1992]. From time immemorial, such has been the hazardous nature and consequences of “...POW’s camps and institutionalized residency.” Such hazards also represent that which had brought the demise of anti-apartheid activist “...Steven Bantu Biko,” fondly called “...Steve Biko.” He became the 44th victim said to have died in South African Law enforcement custody [1946-1977]. Unlike Christopher Dorner, Biko was protesting “...Ethnicity Injustice” without guns.
UNFOLDING DRAMAAs the drama unfolded, the world watched in eager anticipation of an early end to what may be recorded in the annals of Californian history as a “...One-man 10-day Reign of Terror and Horror.” At the end, it had resulted in “...death and destruction; ...sorrow and grief; ...pain and discomfort. These were the result of a seemingly carefully planned and revengeful acts of violence, vowed to be mercilessly unleashed upon “...targeted victims.” Thousands of miles away from Antigua and Barbuda in the Eastern Caribbean, thousands of people were held spellbound, while Southern California residents cowering with fear were held captives in their homes, offices, schools and vehicles. The disgruntled former Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer, “...Christopher Dorner,” employing “...Rambo-styled jungle tactics,” went on a rampage, “...seeking, ambushing and attacking” those he had vowed to eliminate from human existence. Consequent upon such threat, he had caused the LAPD to be placed on “...high alert,” publicizing as targets its members and former colleagues from “...Police Chief to Veterans to Rookie officers and their families.”
HORROR AND DISMAYThe LAPD hierarchy and line personnel were placed on tenterhooks. The rest of the civilized world was placed in observation. In “...horror and dismay,” fuelled by dry wood, they witnessed the fiery engulfment of a wooden cabin. It meant the ultimate destruction of “...man and furnishing, burning with rapidity to that which New Yorkers had coined “...Ground Zero.” Those who understood the destructive nature of fires knew that they usually left “...an incandescent glow, followed by smoldering smoke, charred human remains, twisted or melted metal and tons of debris.” Thus, On Scene officials knew that Christopher Dorner was “...inescapably trapped” in the inferno and that he would have been consumed beyond recognition. Then there were the chronic institutionalized deceptive antics of “...Cannot confirm that the charred remains were that of the wanted killer/fugitive Christopher Dorner. Even more offensive to human sensibility was when San Bernardino County Sheriff John MacMahon said, “...We did not intentionally burn down that cabin Mr. Dorner Out” [ABC News: Feb. 2013].
DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES/RACISMThe reasons advanced by the renegade former officer for running amok, was “...an age-old employment practice-Unfair Dismissal,” asserting, true or false, “...Systemic Discriminatory and/or practices of Corruption.” Despite reasonable progress made since the early 1960’s; ...sacrifices made by Civil Rights advocates across the globe, the “...Nelson Mandela’s and Martin Luther King Jr., he alleged that the system was still rife with the “...objectionable societal malady “...Ethnicity Racism,” perpetrated by bigots. If there were doubts to his assertions, real or imaginary, they may have been cleared up when “...Incendiary Gas canisters were fired at the “...wooden cabin” in which, like an American Tiger, he was “...inescapably caged.” Law enforcement culture and tactics dictate “...desperate criminals necessitated desperate measures. His fate was sealed. There were sparse feelings of attrition.
CONCLUSIONThen came irony and hypocrisy, when Law enforcement officials subsequently announced that the “...manhunt was over,” bringing controlled sighs of relief that Chris Dorner’s ill-conceived publicized threat to life, had been effectively eliminated. His reign of terror had ended just as it started. This was evidenced by the “...immediate removal of cordons from roadways to allow for freedom of vehicular movement of residents. The vexed question however, was if the wooden Cabin was not deliberately set a light, “...Why no valiant attempt was made at extinguishing the towering inferno in PROTECTING LIFE and SAFEGUARDING PROPERTY?” From a professional perspective, these have always been the primary functions of Law enforcement and Fire Marshalls in civil societies across the globe. If it smells fishy, then it has to be fish product.” Such may have been the “...smelling” of former FBI Assistant Director Tom Fuentes. Clearly “...not fooled or drunk” (local phraseology), Tom said “...It is clear that there will have to be some further explanation” [Nick Allen: London Telegraph: Feb.13, 2013].
