Open Port Letter To PM

Hear the cry of the employeesI respectfully write to you, Honourable Prime Minister, with great urgency regarding the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority Management Team. The Management Team of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority is inadequately lacking in experience, and in cases qualifications, to run one of Antigua's greatest assets.

In a time of gross economic downturn where instability can prove to be an evident factor in all stratas of our economy, our workforce and our society, it is undoubtedly sad that our very own people are feeling tortured, robbed of their civil rights, victimized for having an independent mind, and sabotaged from personal development and growth.

The Management is acting with complete disregard for the democracy, for the truth and core of a society built on transparency, education and self development, all of which I strongly believed; and still believe that your Administration stood for at the inception of its first term in governance of our beautiful Antigua and Barbuda; and what I believe that you continue to stand for today; and in time to come.

The people still believe in your Administration, you have great leaders within your regime; however the cries of the people must be heard, and dealt with in order for your continued governance, for at this time your Administration is the only existing choice for our society.

I can get over a thousand signatures, when there are only two hundred plus employees on the Port to testify to this mis conduct and mis management.

You have an Information Technology Manager employed by the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority that is also qualified in Port Management, A Budget Controller qualified to be the Financial Controller and fluent in a Foreign Language, Clerks qualified in Human Resource Management, Operations Clerks with years of experience, that with the right training and molding could manage the Operations of the Port.

The current Operations Manager is highly qualified in security; why is he not being utilized adequately? He should be the Security Manager.

I am not employed by the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, I am merely a legal advisor to a vast number of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority's staff, and as such have been asked to write to you on their behalf.  I respectfully end by saying that for generations, people of different societies and cultures have fought for freedom, for true democracy, for self worth, and the gift of human value.

Please Honourable Prime Minister, hear the cry of the employees at the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority and stop their tears.

There's Hope

A friend told me about this letter; now that I’ve read it myself I must commend the writer for their “on time” opinions. If this is a reflection of what can be anticipated, I wish her luck and continued improvement.

Mr. P.M, please no hasty decisions, there may be hope for the management yet being “inadequately lacking” may not be a bad thing. If they lack inadequacy, then they may be what the doctor ordered.

P.S I’m not being an “oxymoron”

Very true Skye. However you as a business owner will continue to suffer if a complete clean up of the port is not done soon. By complete clean up I mean from the top to the workers who are at the bottom, playing follow the leader. Independent minded people should know wrong from right and not just go through the day feeling that everyone is to blame.

I really tried not to comment on this article, when i first saw it this morning, but now I feel forced to. I really think that the person who wrote this letter needs to get off the sauce. Too much wine is not good for you. One of the parts that got me was "I am not employed by the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, I am merely a legal advisor to a vast number of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority's staff". I try to stay clear of persons who think they can speak for everyone because I often wonder how they obtain instructions? Is it via a dream or when the alcohol starts to get to their head. Anyway who knows perhaps I will end up apologizing for this post

The conditioins at the port may seem dire but the workers also demonstrate poor work ethics. They work at a slow pace and take extended lunches while consumers have to wait to clear their items. One dare not ask them a question since the response is normally some profanity followed by "nobady can tell me wha fu do:. Sad but True. Maybe consumers would be more sympathethic to the conditions at the port if they saw the workers truly making an effort.

our very own people are feeling tortured, robbed of their civil rights, victimized for having an independent mind, and sabotaged from personal development and growth. Not just Port workers but the general feeling around the countryand growing. Respect peoples feelings, they have real reasons to feel this way.

"The people still believe in your Administration, you have great leaders within your regime" The official joke of the day!

Why not just call a spade a spade? Talk about a real waste of time, is this letter suppose to be really directed at Baldwin Spencer in hopes of getting something done on behalf of the workers? Best of luck to you people on that dream!
