Really Frustrated by Redjet

Really Frustrated by RedjetDear Editor. I am an Antiguan citizen who had welcomed Redjet's route from Antigua to Barbados on a Wednesday and Saturday back in March.

I readily purchased tickets for my family and me to travel to Barbados on March 19.  Before the week finished, Redjet announced the suspension of flights. I was optimistic that this was going to be temporary, as they intimated. However, I took steps to get a refund.

Their online message is that they will get back to me. I am still waiting. Subsequent to that, on receiving my credit card statement, I realised that instead of billing my account for the equivalent EC$ amount as stated, the airline has instead charged my credit card USD$.

The error has resulted in my credit being maxed out, and I am now subjected to credit card fees from my banking institution. I have requested an immediate reversal of these charges from Redjet, since I am in need of my credit for other expenses.

I have done this through their customer service email that is still on their official website. Repeated calls to all their numbers in the region have gotten me a busy signal. On the bright side, they must be busy with all the Caribbean claims and will get back to me.

However, it was since April 25 that I wrote to them. I have rewritten, and still the automated message of getting back to me in five working days. I have tried calling all the numbers below, but still BUSY.

Redjet Call Centre Opening Hours:

Monday -Friday 7:30am - 8:30pm (AST)

Saturday & Sunday 10:00 am - 2:00pm (AST)

Barbados +1 246 8272727

Guyana +1 592 6623000

Jamaica +1 876 3772222

Trinidad +1 868 2990888

Antigua +1 268 7342727

St Lucia +1758-724-5538

I would expect that the airline would cover all my bank charges and any other charges incurred, as well as a full refund of all tickets purchased, since this situation arose as a result of agent error at the airline. (Out of almost EC$6,000.)

Can someone in the Caribbean tell me how to get back my funds?

I wish the airline all success in future endeavour, and hope that this situation is rectified speedily. I need my funds NOW!  Am I the only Caribbean national with this problem???? Was I ripped OFF??? I need to know so as to act.

Wrote several emails to Red Jet but got a reply saying we will get in touch with you in 5 days. Well, it's going on 3 months and I have not heard from anyone. The FAA needs to look into this matter. I need my money back very soon....

Why didn't you dispute the charge?????

#6 Vicnes » 2012-05-21 22:34

Within a week of purchasing the tickets, RedJet went belly-up and you did not dispute the charge with the credit card company. Why?

Now don't make another costly mistake by hiring a lawyer to sue RedJet. They are bankrupt and you will not get a red cent from RedJet, even if you are successful with the lawsuit. But you will get a fat bill from the lawyer.

May I suggest that you now call the credit card company and get them to help you. Banks for the last decade have held funds for certain high risk business in a sort of escrow for exactly the problem you are faced with. We have to think outside of the box here. The only people that can help you is the Bank and that is only if they are still holding some of RedJet's "funds".

consumer protection

#5 Businessman » 2012-05-21 10:08

The question that arises here is where are our consumer protection agencies and who is regulating the various industrie to avoid people being coned. Our politician do not seem to be very concerned when things like this happen. Just look at how they treat the CLICO debacle and the Stanford fall down. No one looks at strenghtning laws and regulate the business. I do many trade online and if it was not regulated how would I put my trust in a company to deliver me the goods after I have paid for by credit card. But I can put my trust in a regulated system. And right here at home we have almost nothing that would regulate and protect us. No wonder why the Stanford victims are sueing the government for their loss. It's really time for us to get serious and focus on the right things, or we would remain a "banana replublic"

Frustrated Antiguan Citizen,

I'm in a similar situation (though not as bad) as you. I booked a flight to Guyana earlier this year, which was later cancelled by Redjet due to them reorganizing their flight schedule. At the time, (around January) this was amidst rumours of them being in severe financial difficulty. As they were the ones who cancelled my flight, and due to the fact that I could no longer make the resheduled times, I asked for my money back. They told me that I should get it within "three weeks"

After the time had elapsed, I got no refund. I then began a schedule of calling every single week (for about a month and a half) to get my money back. Each week, I got a runaround: The person to sign the check was off this week, the check would be prepared in the next batch, the check was on the next flight down, followed finally that I would DEFINITELY get my money by the end of the week.

Then, Redjet closed, and I was no longer able to reach ANYONE. It seems that my money has now been lost, which, it seems, has happened to everyone else who has booked flights with them!

Try this

#3 Robinhood » 2012-05-21 06:47

Since you purchased those tickets with a credit card
you can now put those charges in dispute with the
credit card company, let them deal with the problem.
Hope everything worked out for you, good luck.

RE: Really Frustrated by Redjet

You should have refuted the charges with your bank. This way Redjet would have to prove the validity of the charges instead of you running after them for your money. Good Luck
