ECCB Hosts Sir Arthur Lewis Annual Lecture

ECCBDr Simon B Jones-Hendrickson, Professor of Economics and current Dean (Interim) of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, University of the Virgin Islands, will present the 17th Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, ECCB Headquarters, on 7 November.

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) began hosting the Annual Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture series in 1996 in honour of the memory of Sir Arthur Lewis, Nobel Laureate in Economics, who made a significant contribution to Caribbean regional integration.

Dr Jones-Hendrickson will speak on the theme: “Contesting Destinies in a W Arthur Lewis Framework.”

Dr Jones-Hendrickson, a native of St Kitts & Nevis, began his service in the areas of education in 1963 as a teacher at the Old Road Public School, St Kitts & Nevis.  



Between 1973 and 1976 he was a lecturer in Economics at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica.  Dr Jones-Hendrickson has also served as an External Examiner for the University of the West Indies and a consultant to various regional and international bodies.

In addition, Dr Jones-Hendrickson has served on a number of task forces, commissions and boards in St Kitts & Nevis and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and has undertaken diplomatic assignments for the Government of St Kitts & Nevis.

Dr Jones-Hendrickson is a prolific writer and scholar, having written and published several books, over 100 articles and two volumes of poetry on economics, public finance, public choice policy, immigration, labour market economics and social and political issues.

Following the Lecture, the ECCB will present the 4th Annual Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Book Award to the T A Marryshow Community College, Grenada.  The award, which is valued at $2,700, is presented annually in alphabetical order to a selected college in the respective ECCU member country.
