Antigua St John's - Head of the Antigua Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) Juno Samuel has said he did not unilaterally appoint a chief elections regulator.
This after a letter from a Concerned Worker was sent to Caribarena.com on Wednesday.
The letter said, “One man is running the Commission, and that person is Mr. Samuel. He even met with a few members of staff to alert them of his appointee, Generis Robinson…”.
Speaking briefly with this publication, Juno Samuel said, “Whomever said that is just trying to create mischief.”
Nathaniel "Paddy" James, one of the Antigua Labour Party’s representative on ABEC said based on his knowledge, there has been no such appointment.
He said if there were an appointment, it would be illegal and against even the revised Act that governs the Commission.
“She has not been appointed. The Commission would first have to make a decision to appoint her and pass that decision through a machinery within the Commission,” James said.
