What has the Antigua Labour Party done to aid the upward mobility of the citizenry?
That's the question the United Progressive Party's public relations officer, Winston Henry, wants answered. Henry said the ALP should stop criticizing the government's efforts and tell the people of Antigua and Barbuda what social programmes they have offered.
The UPP mouthpiece said he's at a loss for why the opposition continues to cry down social programmes like the Dollar Barrel initiative and the National School Meals Programme,
which assist the most vulnerable in society.
"This government has brought and instituted more social programmes in the last four and a half years, than the ALP did in its almost 30 years as a government," he said.
"The Antigua Labour party claims to be the party of the working class, the party of poor people, and the party of 'picky headed' people, so what are the programmes they have implemented to help the downtrodden in society?" the PRO questioned.
"Their monetary handouts do not empower the people," he continued. "A hundred dollar here and there... that's keeping the people in a state of social distress."
Boasting of the UPP's accomplishments since in office, he listed the School Uniform Grant, the ome Improvement Grant, the National Loan Fund and the Senior Citizens Utility Programme as just a few of the socially uplifting projects.
"The UPP's focus is to find new programmes," he said, "which can bring

about change on the social landscape of the less fortunate."
