Freeland is Top Choice for St Georges‬

Michael FreelandAntigua St. John's - Michael Freeland is being actively considered to challenge UPP incumbent Jacquie Quinn Leandro in the St. Georges Constituency in the constitutionally due 2014 General Elections.

A senior Antigua Labour Party official confirmed on Sunday that Freeland is being “actively considered” to replace Dean Jonas, who unsuccessfully contested against Quinn-Leandro in 2009 on the ALP ticket.

The ALP member explained that Freeland’s consideration also comes as part of the proposed boundary changes which the ALP is actively preparing for.

“Bearing in mind the constituency boundary changes and the reconfiguration of the St. Georges constituency the ALP is seeking persons deemed to be fit, personable and qualified to challenge the UPP incumbent,” the source said.

But before a final determination is made further discussions are to be held with Dean Jonas who last contested for the ALP.

Caribarena understands that Jonas has signaled his desire to contest in St. John’s Rural East, beside former party leader Hon. Lester Bird, where he is “more comfortable.”

Based on the proposed boundary changes to date, Rural East will be divided into two parts – North and South – with Bird holding on to North where his strongholds lie.

Regarding the addition of Michael Freeland to the ALP ticket, the ALP source noted that presently he meets what the party deems to be “the right qualifications to be a politician.”

Furthermore, it has been noted that most of the proposed additions to the ALP ticket is part of preparatory measures.

“All of these are in the event that the boundary changes go through. We are just planning in anticipation.

“Of course we are going to challenge them (government) in court but in the event that the challenge is unsuccessful we don’t want to be caught unprepared,” the source said.

In the meantime, while the opposition is busy preparing, so is the ruling administration.

Unconfirmed reports are that Winston Henry, a spokesperson for the United Progressive Party, has announced his intention to contest the 2014 election. Similar reports have suggested that Mervyn Richards may also be considering an electoral run.

I am overjoyed that this is happening to Dean who has proven to be a txxxxr and a backstabber. When Mr. Dalso sent in his letter requesting to run on the ticket and to challenge Dean, he did some real xxd manouvres to get xxt. So now, here is your come-uppance Dean. You must have some principles. Michael will have a tough run against the formidable giant, Jackie, but he is a better candidate than Dean by far.

Well I had no doubt that the ALP/ABLP whatever the name is now would have seen the wisdom in making the necessary changes to the constituencies for the 2014 general election. Comrade Leader Browne you are going to do the right thing in the interest of not just the labour party supporters but also that of the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. We must win the 2014 general elections boundary change or no boundary change and when it comes to doing the right thing I know you will.

Micheal is the man to free St. Georges from the clutches of UPP no disrespect to Dean but ....if you couldn't beat Jackie under UPP to be the candidate then we are expecting a miracle for you to beat her under a ALP ticket. St. Georges people only remember you as the PRO that help put the UPP in power and put us under this sufferation.... . so it would be difficult to support you under any ticket ....really!!!

Micheal would have a better chance this time around....... Definite WIN for the Antigua Labour Party and the people of St. Georges and by extention the people of antigua and barbuda.

Let the voting begin....!! come een election 2014

You,ll need to stop this crap about people been UPP,it matters not where you came from, but where you are going. There are some candidates that you mentioned that i think really need changing, but the bottom line is the people, hope the powers that be in the party, use their wisdom and give the people the representatives they want,If it is Freeland, then so be it,Leave Chet alone though, that would be a grave Mistake.Dean do not deserve the sort of criticisms coming form his own party supporters.Cant remember hearing such non-sensical utterances about the now Min of Security, former ALP attn General.

Without any shadow of doubt, young Mr. Freeland is the best option for St. Georges, irrespective of whether or not the constituency is split. He is a well needed breath of fresh air in our politics. His is well mannered, scandal free, active in the community, and has good track record of excellent management skills (think MYST).

What is Dean's track record (apart from being a former member of the UPP)?

I would be curious though, to find out which part of the constituency he would run if there was a split...Potters / Johnsons or Barnes Hill.

Gaston just do Antigua and take Dean Judas off the ticket completely and while you're at it take davin, osbert, Maureen, and walk with Chet too and then you can construct your winning team. I would have said asot but I know you don't have the hoofspa to do it.

Whether the boundaries are changed or not, Michael Freeland WILL be the ALP Candidate in St. George in the next general election!

You can take that to the bank! So tell UPP Dean, move over!
