St George Poll Analysis

St George Poll AnalysisAntigua St. john's - Yesterday’s poll for the St. George Constituency featured three Candidates, the Incumbent Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro (UPP), the ALP’s Dean Jonas, and Jonas’ rival within the ALP Michael Freeland.

In the previous election, in which Freeland was not a candidate, Quinn-Leandro got 14.5% more votes than Dean Jonas. Yesterday’s poll showed Quinn-Leandro continues to lead Jonas, despite a surprise landslide victory for Michael Freeland.

Total Votes in Poll: 840
Percentage of Vote for Jonas: 27.9%
Percentage of Vote for Quinn-Leandro: 29.9%

Percentage of Vote for Freeland: 37.6%

Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro (UPP, Incumbent)
Total Votes: 251
Votes from Antigua and Barbuda: 200
Votes from Overseas: 51
Percentage of Local Votes: 79.7%
Percentage of Overseas Votes: 20.3%

Michael Freeland (ALP)

For the duration of the poll, competition between Jonas and Quinn-Leandro was close, with Jonas initially leading the vote, but subsequently being overtaken by Quinn-Leandro. Having said that, Jonas did receive more local votes than Quinn-Leandro, and lost to Quinn-Leandro due to her larger overseas support.

From the beginning, however, Michael Freeland established a significant lead, which was maintained and even lengthened during the duration of the poll.

In total, there were 840 votes in yesterday’s poll. Jonas got 27.9% of the vote, Quinn-Leandro received 29.9% of the vote, and Freeland received 37.6% of the vote.

Gaston cannot choose anybody, its up to the people in those areas to vote in a primary and declare who they want to run. Just like the people selected gaston via the conention, he should let the people decide who they want. Ayway i do ot give much to this poll as anyone can vote and does not reflect what can happen election day.

Who's analysing?

#15 True blue » 2013-02-01 11:46

Who is really doing the analysing here? This poll was not done in St. George's. It had national reach...anyone could vote, even overseas voters. what purpose is this serving outside of sensationalizin g politics. Scientific polls with empirical data would better serve the electorate not this shoddy exercise. But I guess you guys have papers and ads to sell! Bravo! do what you must, however unscientific, unfounded and politically convoulted.

As we said yesterday, and we now repeat, Ms. Quin is our Representative. We vote her in 2004 and 2009 and we voting her in 2014. Let Michael and Dean put that in dey pipe.

#13 KarenF » 2013-02-01 11:39

What this shows to me, a proud resident of ST. GEORGES is that Jacqui's support is constant. The Labour support is splt between Dean and this new guy, Michael. And if differences are not hammered out, Jacqui will go smiling to victory once again, as SHE SHOULD and WILL. I didn't vote in your poll yesterday but I will in 2014 and she is getting my vote for sure!

Your claim to fame is that you campaigned for Freeland. With luck you may get to campaign for another Freeland?

In the mean time you need to improve your grammatical skills.

...it'$ a Family affair...

#10 Jumbee Picknee » 2013-02-01 09:43

It'$ a Family affair...It'$ a Family Affair...by special request from the studio of Sly J and the Family Stoned Birds....
We are Family...by special request from the studio of Sister Jaqui "the Mighty Quinn' Sledge.
I just had to zone in on these two classic and popular songs. Dramatic scenes are punctuated more with background music.
Back to life, back to Reality...
These polls, scientific or not, and by the way, it's a matter of adjusting the criterias to make them scientific. However, they do show several trends:
A...the UPP is falling from grace.
B...the ALP has some serious internal problems. It'$ the "old Bath new," leadership.
C...Vere Bird III and his faction which more than likely has support from Freeland will have a huge role to play in rhe upcoming elections, in order for Labour to be victorious. GASTON, to be forewarned, is to be forearmed.
D...the UPP is letting ALP show their hand, and in this high stakes game of POLUTION(politi cs), this is NOT wise.

If the right persons are chosen, a landslide victory will be the result

#8 Bluddy Bloke » 2013-02-01 08:45

Dean seems to be quite an intelligent and humble guy. However, it is a bit unfortunate that he does not have that personality or the charisma to run as a politician and command the peoples votes. He needs to be more assertive. Besides the exposure to the public of the power struggle within, It is attributes such Charisma, Assertiveness and humbleness that are lacking in the ALP team why they are faced with the hurdle of not winning the election with ease. It is quite clear the m** do not want the UPP administration to govern any longer. However, the ALP are shooting themselves in the foot, creating severe casualties for the election. If only the right persons with the right qualities are selected, then there is no doubt there will be a land slide victory for ALP.

Pointless polls

#7 B-Easy » 2013-02-01 08:21

Since these polls are not targeted specifically at the constituents for which these candidates are hoping to represent, they only serve to prove nothing more than who is more popular by people whose vote won't matter come election day.

A more focused polling would give a true reflection of the way people of St.George are leaning at this time.

#5 St George » 2013-02-01 08:09

Be smart like the rest of us, Kelton was indeed included as none of the above. If the people were not satisfied with the other three named one would have voted for Kelton.
Kelton = none of the above.

#2 Team Dalso » 2013-02-01 03:05

May I ask why Kelton Dalso's name was not on this poll? Just like Michael Freeland wrote to the Executive to challenge Dean Jonas, Kelton Dalso also did that. Why has Caribarena not done its homework? A different picture would emerge had he been put in the mix.

#1 Faithful national » 2013-02-01 03:01

Freeland got a higher percentage of overseas voters than both Quinn and Jonas. In fact he had the highest percentage of overseas votes. How no comment on that? What are you guys really up to?
