Humphreys Revisits March Request

Minister of Helps Eugene Humphreys Antigua St. John’s - Minister of Helps Eugene Humphreys has revised his approach to public protests following what he considers to be “sudden” and “peculiar” demands from Commissioner of Police Vere Brown.

Humphreys told Caribarena that considering the new demands for passport verification of the identities and nationalities of a selected number of proposed speakers, he has opted to simply omit the names of these individuals from the list.

Further, he said, he has omitted the names of all individuals, including those that the commissioner had no contention with and now he is simply crossing his fingers and hoping for an approval.

A new letter with these amendments was sent to the commissioner’s office last Wednesday, Humphreys recounted, and he is still awaiting a response.

“I sent a new letter and just took out the names of the people whose passports he (the Commissioner) wanted to see.

“I sent a letter with no speakers at all. It is just a request for a march. I’m going to listen to hear what he says,” Humphreys said.

He is looking to take to the streets on Thursday, should approval be granted. The march is in keeping with longstanding demands for the release of all documents relating to the controversial Wadadli Power Plant agreement.

Humphreys noted that he has also sent a separate letter to the police commissioner, also without names, for permission to march against the commissioner himself. He said he, along with society, has lost all faith in the ability of Commissioner Brown and therefore demands his speedy exit from office.

“The march for the commissioner’s removal is for next Thursday. I want to see if he is going to sign it,” Humphreys said.

Attempts to reach Commissioner Brown for a comment on the matter were unsuccessful.

I wonder what reason the Chief Constable will now have for not allowing this citizen to exercise his rights to organize a march. You can bet he will find something as ridiculous as the last time. Stay tuned fellow citizens for another chapter of the saga of Citizen Brown versus a Citizen Humphreys! Maybe he will ask for his blood type or social insurance card...
