Asot Will Not Be a Scapegoat

Antigua St John's - Opposition Member of Parliament Asot Michael, who has been at the centre of an ongoing debate regarding the Antigua Labour Party’s abandoned Motion of No Confidence against Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, has threatened to “tell the truth” if his party does not “desist” from making him the “scapegoat” in the issue.

Michael, who has been overseas supporting the country’s national football team in their bid against the USA in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, is cited as leading an attempt to kill the motion before it was called in the House of Assembly in late May. Reports are that Michael was acting on the wishes of Opposition Leader Lester Bird.

Speaker of the House D. Gisele Isaac-Arindell and Attorney General Justin Simon have both exposed the proposals brought to them by the opposition MP to quash the motion.

Their failure to support his request is seen as critical to the decision of mover of the motion, Bird, to abandon the parliamentary sitting all together.

“Dear all, I’m tired of being made a scapegoat. Let Ron Sanders or whoever writes for the leader to desist from this nonsense or the truth will be told. I’m fed up of it all,” Asot Michael said in an email correspondence to a number of undisclosed recipients on Sunday.

Caribarena contacted former Antiguan Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders for a response to his supposed involvement in the opposition leader’s bid on Friday to distance himself from the allegations.

But Sir Ronald said he had no wish to be involved in Antigua & Barbuda's politics and pointed out that, as a syndicated weekly columnist for many years, he has not once commented on the ongoing issue.

“As for the suggestion that I was involved in this matter in any way, I state categorically that this is not so. I know nothing of any of it,” Sir Ronald said in a brief response.

In the meantime, Michael told Caribarena that he is currently in Miami, USA and he would provide an official response to the situation when he returns to Antigua later this week.

The Speech Writer

#19 ScanSnap » 2012-06-12 00:23

You people dont know the speech writer you know. He stayed in England and knew the details of how the BA plane got stuck on the tarmac years ago. He also stayed in England and wrote the report blaming xxxx for the mess with the little girl. So yes, Inquiring Mind, you need not tell him a thing - he knows and so he writes. He is the one who created this damn mess with the Leader. What would VC Bird Sr. say about this man? Persona Non Grata!!!

@ Lester

#18 Family Guy » 2012-06-11 20:35

Poor Lester...it's not his fault! He has no idea about what is being put out there by him...I also believe that he has no idea about what is really happening in Antigua and Barbuda! He doesn't go to his office - as Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition - provided for by tax-payers monies...yet he is dying (pardon the pun) to become Prime Minister? Is he going to stay home and collect rent for using his office at home? This is just a sick joke! Only in Antigua and Barbuda! Doesn't he have any family left to try and rescue him? How really sad!

call election now

#17 From the side line » 2012-06-11 19:26

The best thing that Baldwin can do now is call election now. How was it even possible to have a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in the PM turn to a vote a NO BELIEVE in the ALP Leadership. The leadership has made a total mess of it. People were looking at them as the only hope in truning around this country. But what they have displayed lately is a total embarressment. The excuse given by the leader of teh opposition doesn't hold the litmus test at all. Not for a seasoned politician and not for such an important moment. He had better drop down in parliament and let an ambulance take him home. That way we would have a little more pitty and understanding, seeying that he did everything and fought untill. But not like this. Going home without even telling the rest of your colleagues. Lester will have a very hard time winning back those of us who are deeply disappointed and now distrust everything he says. Guess Peter was right to recommend you leave the political seen now with grace.

This sounds sick to say the least. If for any reason that the alp decided not to go along with the Vote of no confidence, they could have just come clean. Why all this drama, this is unacceptable.Mr Michael, please tell us what the truth is,we need to know,No wonder you have been so still on the power plant issue, everyone is looking for themself, sad to say,but i will never vote for the upp, that would be like putting a rope around my neck and tightening it,but with all this drama i really think i will stay away from the polls, especiall y if people like dangerous you, are a part of the alp,You cannot be for me and against me at the same time, while the upp scampish ministers are standing firmly behind their leader,in the face of open corruption, you are planning to destroy a party you are supposed to be a part of? As Vc snr would say, your kind have no orders in our dam parliament, you all are not deep rooted antiguans, you are all rich and therefore dont give a **.Time to purge the ALP of people like you.

Sungu vs Lungu

#14 Inquiring mind » 2012-06-11 16:43

Even if Sir Ron writes for Lester Bird, does'nt Lester Bird know what he is reading? Further, what I heard in Lester's voice can only by written as told to the writer by Lester Bird. All a bunch of idiots. I was an undecided voter, but I think this debacle just made up my mind for me. I man staying away from the polls on election day. Sungu no better than lungu!!!!!!!

Asot Michael, “has threatened to “tell the truth” if his party does not “desist” from making him the “scapegoat” in the issue.”

Everyone should wish that he continues to be made the “scapegoat” so the truth will come out.

And, Mr. Michael, while you are telling the truth, remember the whole truth, and noting but the truth.

“Let’s fix the little things before we attempt to fix the little things.”

STAND FIRM ASOT

#11 THE GODFATHER » 2012-06-11 11:29

Asot, your responsibility is to Antigua and Barbuda, not to your political party, so why not " tell the truth" you need too. You have blown their cover, by insinuating Ron Sanders is the director working on a favorable outcome for Opposition Leader Lester Bird, making you a public spectacle. They will never forgive you for challenging them.

I support your disgust, it is not fair, they view you as a liability, they are networking on your political exit. The Godfather stands with you, since it's unfair, and not political right what they are doing. Stand firm Asot!

I wonder when will it become clear to these A-holes in the ALP that they are getting under everyone's skin. These people are most inept as an opposition. The Clueless Wonder, Dr Dr BS, has practically gift-wrapped A&B and placed it back into the lap of the ALP, and they have chosen this time to form the fool.

It is clear that the ALP is inept and cannot seem to get out of its own way. Instead of a leader, maybe the party needs a whole new slate of candidates, because the current crop of characters are certainly not cutting the mustard. This country is hurting and dying a slow, painful death. Poor people are bawling murder, and the most important thing for these clowns is who will be the next Political Leader.

The sooner they realise how much they are turning off the electorate, the better for them (and us). As much as it hurts to admit it, we better face the reality that we may be looking at another 5 years of the UPP. God help us!

No one wants to be held responsible for Motion!

#7 Dig It » 2012-06-11 08:45

Well these "internal fights" are getting from bad to worst! It seems like we will never know the "truth" about what went down in Parliament in regards to the Motion, as chairs continue "folding-up" and some going around "in circles." The more the Loyal Opposition "spills" the bean about the failure of the Motion of No Confidence, the more the sound and look like a "circus!" Everyone is at each other throats, and, no one wants to take the "responsibility " of why the Motion was "killed!" Hmmm, how many "scapegoat" we are going to have before the Asot, LB and the leaders of the Opposition start taken the peoples "issues" seriously!

Sir Sir cannot be found to speak to the police on IHI but he is always available to speak to on trivial issues. Why Ron Sanders has not been back to Antigua since 2004 ? Is he waiting for Lester to win again to run the country from London or where ever he is hiding ?

#4 Bush Doctor » 2012-06-11 07:22

Sorry Sir Sir Ron but can you state "categorically" that you were never involved in the IHI saga?

That's what all of Antigua and Barbuda would want to know! Is that what Asot means when he refers to being a "scapegoat"?

Please come back to Antigua and give a statement to the Police so we can put IHI scandal to rest once and for all!

#3 tenman » 2012-06-11 07:14

My gosh the picture with Asot playing with a goat has many connotations. It brings back memories of the PM's (BS) statement about separating sheep and goat. Sticking with the story's theme, the opposition needs to hurry clean house because the more they say they are together, the more examples appear making them liars

What do you mean?

#2 Morris » 2012-06-11 06:29

I wish Asot would help me to understand what he meant when he said "desist ...or the truth will be told." My questions are:
* Does this mean that the truth has been hidden from the public and all we've received thus far are lies?
* If the story was not printed, would he still be guarding the truth from the public?
* How does he expect trust from the same people he is denying the truth?
* Is his loyalty to the people or the party first?
And these are the very same clowns that get re-elected to office over and over again? No wonder ANU always seems to have problems.

Ok, if Asot is threatening to tell the truth I can only assume that the statements that Lester has made are lies. Hmmmm, I wonder if they lie about this relatively simple matter then I can only imagine what else they have lied about. Cant trust these people.
