PM Reasserts UPP Stronghold

PM SpencerAntigua St John's - Senior members of the United Progressive Party might not always be on the same page, but its leader and Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda has assured the nation that the team remains “in the struggle together” and it is with that union that the party will continue to lead the country.

Addressing the masses at a recent UPP Political Rally, the Prime Minister said, “We are together to ensure that Antigua and Barbuda moves forward.” He commended the party’s executive and general membership for their support, encouragement and “burning desire to do good” for the country.

“We can’t afford to move. We have to remain firm and we have to ensure that we defy all the odds. We have to continue to keep the faith and hold the line,” Spencer told supporters.

The country’s leader reminded the gathering that the nation has indeed been through “difficult and challenging times” lately and it is in that breath that it must look at the shape of the state and recognize the strategic progress realized.

He went further to warn the Opposition Antigua Labour Party that the government would no longer sit idly by and allow their tantrums to go unanswered, corrupt the minds of the public and ultimately undermine all the administration’s achievements of the past eight years.

“We are ready for them… We have had enough of their rhetoric. We have had enough of their nonsense, and we are going to take it to them… in many ways and in many forms.”

Further, the PM is convinced that the “report card” of his two-term administration is untarnished and formidable in comparison to the track record of the former government. And stated clearly that he was not daunted by the proposed vote of no confidence against him for Parliament at the next sitting.

In fact, the Prime Minister has said his government “deserves another term in office”.

No Confidence Vote
“As leader of this government, I am not afraid. I have absolutely no need to fear…  I always believe that the truth, no matter how bad it is, will always win all in the end,” the PM said in response to the no confidence threat against him.

“I am not afraid. Vote of no confidence or no vote of no confidence, you are in safe hands with Baldwin Spencer. You are in safe hands with the United Progressive Party.”

Regarding the people’s expressed disappointment in the UPP administration, Spencer asked that these individuals “compare” their disappointment today to their disappointment in 2004 when they voted for a change in the country’s leadership.

I can't believe I have such a ridiculous PM who doesn't think before he speaks. At that very same meeting he was going on about a law suit that has been brought against the government (not ALP but the country Antigua). he was talking in a way as to suggest that their was wrong doing by the ALP. But he is now head of government and government is continuous so he is giving the lawyers amunition against his own government which could cost us US$6million. Just to score cheap political points which he didn't anyways for something foolish like that. Instead he is slaping yet another "corrupt" allegation on this country he leads then he challenges others patriotism when they speak out about corruption in his government.

And now he is asking us to choose between "disapointments " ... is that what we come to? Well I hope he understands he is the biggest disapointment ever!!! He was supposed to be the "one strike and your out umpire"!!! He was supposed to be transparent and accountable!!! That was the only reason people put him there. Not because he is a brilliant man and is experienced in finance or business. Just to be transparent and accountable!!! And he FAILED!!! BIG TIME!!!

Is this man using the normal capacity his Brain allows? Is he on some Anti-psychotic Medication,or is he just simply Arrogant, dunce and evil. This cannot be the utterances of a rational normal person, there must be something else at work here.
This is an insult to all Antiguan who has even an IQ just above an **e.I am truly annoyed and disturbed by this utterance.

If you hire people just because they can do a job, they’ll work for your money. But if you hire people who believe what you believe, they’ll work for you with blood and sweat and tears

With such qoutes as: "we can't afford to move;" "We are ready for them;" "I am not afraid." Mr PM the people heard these words already, when you told us to "chop-up the tax man!" Funny, that you turned out to TAX US MERCILESSLY with little\nil to show for it! Instead of "spurring" fighting-words with the opposition, you should be telling the poor people of this country why you feel their pain and suffering for the last eight years, and what you plan to do about it? Your enemy is not the opposition, it is YOU! Any "honest" people in your party and on the streets will you that! Yet, again, you don't like to hear the "truth!"

The root of the problem seems to be that ever since Great Britain kicked Antigua out of the Union, Antiguans have consistently elected Antiguans, no matter how progressively worse the results of that action become.

Perhaps having the Chinese take over isn't a bad thing. I doubt they'll do worse when in power than Sir Allen did when he was in charge.

That's easy we all enjoyed a better standard of living and were not going from hand to mouth !
Is Baldwin Spencer really serious with that statement?

Yes Mr Spencer. We the people who voted for change in 2004, did not forsee the direction of your change BUT we now see that you and your party are both unfit and inept to govern this Country and as easily as we voted you in WE WILL BOOT YOU AND YOUR CORRUPT CRONIES OUT!!
