ALP Respond to Vere Bird III Allegations

Vere Bird IIIAntigua St John's - The Leadership of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ALP) rejects the unfounded and slanderous remarks, attributed to Vere Bird III, appearing in today’s Observer Newspaper, Friday May 4, 2012. The reported claims are untrue and unfounded.

In the six decades since Labour has been contesting elections and fighting opposition parties in Antigua and Barbuda, no such slanderous claim has ever been made by anyone who simultaneously claims membership within the ALP.

That these statements have been attributed to a grandson of Vere Cornwall Bird do not make them any more credible than the continuous flood of untruthful and unsubstantiated claims which the United Progressive Party (UPP) leader and others have made against several ALP Leaders.

PM Baldwin Spencer has recently lost two lawsuits brought against him for slanderous and untruthful claims which he made against ALP leaders.

The Honourable Lester Bird, Political Leader of the ALP, has written to his nephew, a practicing lawyer, demanding a retraction of the statements, and repeating that leaders of the ALP are indeed very vocal on the power plant issue, whether or not the ALP member may think otherwise.

While members of the ALP are always free to exercise their democratic rights, the ALP Leader reminded his family member that the ALP’s Code of Conduct, enshrined in its 2005 Revised Constitution, bars its members from making “inflammatory and defamatory”
statements about any member of the Party.

The ALP is aware that the Resolution of No-Confidence which will come before parliament in a week or two, is very unsettling to the UPP.

The Resolution’s likely success may cause media outlets that are sympathetic to the UPP and hostile to the ALP to give prominence to remarks that defame ALP leaders.

The ALP will nevertheless continue to encourage the people of Antigua and Barbuda to send the failed UPP regime packing, and to end the experiment that has brought pain and suffering to the majority of workers and their families.

...game's, people play...

#26 Jumbee Picknee » 2012-05-11 00:44

Greetings folks, a good read is The Games People Play. Bolt, will no doubt, be a sensation at the Olympics in London, and Vere Bird III is...?????????? ????? take your pick, and let the reasoning continue. If, this is the same Bird, I met 22yrs ago, he has come a long way from under his father and his piano recitals. Got, swift hands, I recall with long resonating silence, on the bones as he rattle them, the key boards I mean, or are they, the bones of his grand-father, as he tosses them in his mind voodoonically. I have not read his comments, therefore it would be disingenuos of me to be critical of him at this juncture. However, what I ihave observed, simply because, his name is Vere Bird, he is an attorney, he voices his opinion's, he is becoming very visible. I would like to read his comments, especially regarding the age factor. Yes, new blood is a necessity, yet old bones holds the structure together, and since there are no new games, just role and rule changes, let's see what his role is as he try to battle with the rules which controls him.

VERE 111 DO NOT GIVE UP

#23 PEACE » 2012-05-06 06:40

Engines NEW or OLD is not the bigest problem with the POWER PLANT.
The bigest PROBLEM is A LAW WAS BROKEN.(The loan transaction did not go to PARLIAMENT).
How come you are not hearing from the Finance Minister who should have SIGNED OFF ON THE LOAN ?
I do believe NOT even the CABINET was INVOLVED in the TRANSACTION.
I also believe the UPP will do all possible not to call a Public Inquiry, because the Gov't LEGAL ADVISOR (the AG) will be called also the TWO (2) UPP FINANCE MINISTERS,what they will or cannot ANSWER TO. HEVEN HELP US.(it is POSSIBLE I AM NOT RIGHT)
VERE 111,a lot of ISSUES too much for the LEADER of the ALP with the CHAIRMAN should not have ALL of the UPP from TOP TO BOTTOM over FIRE.(FENCE / RONMANCING THE NATION / SIDE WALKS ).You name it.
The Chairman with ASOT and Mr BENJAMIN the PUBLIC is not HEARING ANYTHING FROM THEM.
VERE 111,you are not ready for the BIG TIME AS YET,but YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.Please do not get CONFUSED like YOUR COUSIN (your uncle IVOR'S son).
All you and the ANTIGUA/BARBUDA Public would like is a PUBLIC INQUIRY.
VERE 111 DO NOT GIVE UP.

If Vere Bird III has any ideas of running for politics he is starting off real bad. He is on Caribarena answering everyone who disagrees with him. He is attacking senior members of a party his grandfather started in public. He has all kinds of childish videos on some blog he created. And the name of the blog is IPPonUPP but it should be called IPPonUPPandALP. All that and he is supposed to be a lawyer. But he should learn to be a statesman from his uncle Lester Bird. Like him or not you never hear him utter foolish comments like these other politicians and wanna be politicians in Antigua. He thinks before he opens his mouth. Vere Bird III will have to learn that.

Whenever things seem to be exploding within the walls of the Govt,it seem the worse they do,the more the ALP members,(at time i think moreso supporters) cause confusion within the party. The UPP must really have you guys tied down somewhere. It is soo good that i dont believe the dead knows anything, becaus e had they known,VC Sr and the other Elders who have gone on would not be able to RIP. So much serious situations are occuring,to this day SS is unable to pay some persons they moneys for April, moneys which they contributed over the yrs,so is rightly theirs, and all you people can find to do is cut each others throat, this is disgusting, this is why i am repeatly calling for all intelligent Antiguan to get up and stand up for ourselves, witho ut depending on politicians,Som e who live in the laspse of luxury in their metroplitan cities can easily sit back and encourage nonsense, becaus e they do not live here,we do not have the time or luxury to think about Age/youth,our priority is to rid ourself of the oppressive UPP govt, that has stagnated us for almost two decades, after that,we can think of other things.

Who ever accused Gaston Browne of taking a bxibx was not me. I think he needs to go and ask Observer Newspaper and the reporter that wrote the article. I stand by the comments on my blogsite which never used the word Bribe or the name Gaston Browne. Looking forward to throwing the A.L.P. letter in the garbage on receipt.

I disagree, Those young birds are a breath of fresh air which is just what ALP needs. Standing up for truth. The youth say they not going to be bandulood by chinese selling junk to us. and they want accountability from the govrnment and even their own people need to change and do right by our country. Imagine what happened to the guy who first guy who said slavery should be illegal?

WHY?? because Mount St. Johns will kill you. I can hear the news on the radio: Man dies at Mount St. johns medical Center of a broken toe nail. Do you blame the PM for going to the MAYO? When I was working down there, I bought insurance to fly me back to the US in a health emergency. MSJMC is a roach motel. "Roaches check in but they don't check out"

Gaston Brown said some things today on Serpent’ show that, in my opinion, gave the impression of being a snake in the g**…not exactly the type of diatribe I was expecting from an individual with aspirations of being a party leader. I think a simple “no comment” instead of a public threat would have shown more self respect.

IS GASON BROWNE ON OF THE LEADERS OF THE ALP? IS GASTON BROWNE STILL THE CHAIRMAN OF THE A.L.P.? IS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE THE PARTY STILL THE SECOND MOST POWERFUL (SENIOR) POSITON IN THE A.L.P.? I tried to warn you the other day about how the game is played (Vere Bird III). The good news Vere III is that from the present crop, I see you among the future leaders of the A.L.P. I see Molwyn, Gail and yourself as the future of the A.L.P.

Allot of Bird mess

#10 ALP to the Bone » 2012-05-05 13:38

The Bird's are gonna be the reason the ALP might loose the next election. Not Lester or Vere jr but the new generation Birds ... Sean and Vere Bird III.

Sean & Ivor Bird are xxxking $100,000 a year from the ALP and it's supporters to get the ALP messages out on ZDK. And besides "Your View" the ALP's shows are the most listened to programs on ZDK!!! But instead of them find advertisers for the popular shows they milk the ALP listeners. And in the last week they let Winston Williams come on ZDK and launch his campaign for free and they did not ask him one question about the fences scandal (like who's idea was it to use over 3000 "special warrants" instead of going to tender). Then they have a 8 hour tribute countdown to a man who sang nothing worse than Labour Pain for the UPP and then they actually put the said song in the countdown to rub salt in the wounds ... Did they have an 8 hour tributre for the leader of the ALP for his 40 years of public service?

Then you have Vere Bird III who wants to be known as the only one who cares about the Wadadli power plant issue in Antigua.

Papa Bird must be turning over and crying in his grave!!!

Tired of ALP now

#9 Wadadli Blogger » 2012-05-05 13:12

Instead of people talking about the real issue "the old wadadli power plant" we are now seeing headlines about a family war between the Birds. I hope Vere Bird III is happy now that he managed to change the headlines from APUA / UPP corruption to ALP / Bird bickering!!!

TTHE PREDICTABLE GODFATHER

#8 RAWLSTON POMPEY » 2012-05-05 10:12

Though you have regarded my words as "...double edged," without being hypocritical, they were intended so to be. To give commendations when appropriate and to lend understanding and encouragement as circumstances demand.

Some how the Godfather has successfully managed to keep commentators busy with what may easily be described as "...diatribic comments." The "...GRADES" have suggested that.

However, despite the infrequent favourable grades and comments, you appeared unperturbed, steadfast and unrelenting in making your points.
Characteristica lly, these may be admirable qualities.

However, don't you think you would win more commendation and better grades, if only you were to consider the currency of the issue, its importance, impact on the nation, displaying a keener sense of appreciation of the gravity and maturity in your presentations and expressions?

Know that your contributions as teasing and outlandish as they may appear, are widely read to the extent of engaging others, even with contrary views.

Vere BirdIII is in THE RIGHT TRACT...

#6 John.K.Ford » 2012-05-05 09:36

Vere has been fighting for Labor like his Grandfather did against Moody-Sturt.
When members of VC's Party try to break off the strick ,VC retaliated quickly and with force against the few tratiors . Without doing so this country's Land Mass might still be with the Plantocrats..
A copulant alp MP is know to have been trading with the govt to get protection in an IHI MATTER..He was also sucessfull in killing off the massive demostration last year againts the Fencing Rip off. Last Summer xxxxt ,PM BS and Sir xxxxd spent a week at the Mayo clinic during a Health Retreat? WHY????? :o

UPP and shoulin must be in full panic mode and hoping that the ALP will muzzle Vere III. Chef would like to see them try
Godfarther.. tell you UPP that Vere III and the Lonewolfs do not need ALP to expose the ills of your UPP regime, they have been doing a great job all by them self's, what really frightens you is that Vere III has now proven that he is true to his words unlike you politicians, the fencing scandal the power plant a the Bencor the Woodsmall, the parking garage..and more coming every day.

Truth to power

#4 Microwave chef » 2012-05-05 09:13

Bravo Vere III you and the lone wolfs have just gained more credibility in your call that this is about our country not A political party.
you have been upsetting UPP and ALP alike with your " truth to power actions "and that has both parties taking a hard look at you and they will come together to crush you if they can. Think about it Vere , A Bird who publicly states" this is about our country not politics" and than acts accordingly.. refreshing, shocking, courageous, or if you fail to bring accountability and adherence to the law for all political parties and governments in ANU..stupid.
Vere you have just said in public what most of us think and say in private..
well done, you have done so knowing very well it would start a sheeetstorm.
Chef really likes your style. it holds promise for the future

KICK HIM OUT

#3 THE GODFATHER » 2012-05-05 07:19

Congratulations Lester Bird, it took you a long time to recognise your nephew is not ready, exiled for too long. Imagine, after 28 years want to dictate to his Uncle, ALP did the right thing, the next time kick him out.

Anyway, maybe he is getting closer to the truth, he may just say allm of you too damn old, or talk about IHI, because he dislikes the Indian. The double Sir is his enemy.

Do you think I was too quick to condemn Vere Bird 111, is the leadership too old? Uncle Lester and Robin are old fart boxes that deserved to be pushed and not him. What do you think, show me some RED LOVE, yes the thumbs down, love that!

Brother, If you can upset both parties then you are on the right track. I agree with you the opposition is soft and the reasons could very well be that the POT feel funny calling the KETTLE black, so he say you brown, when indeed the POT is just as black as the Kettle. Maybe you are messing up a deal between Red Bull and Blue Balls. If at the very top there is the appearance of lawlessness then the bottom will also catch and be lawless, hence the growth in crime. How do you arrest a man selling $20 weed when you got people breaking the law and affecting millions of dollars? This formular is a receipi for disaster. Society will crumble. We have negroes who will get fooled my shinney objects. It's human nature, for a few of those shinney objects they will betray their mother. A very wealthy man offered me a million to be a part of his group, I turned it down, They laughed at me for 7 years. Today they sit in jail while I sit next to the pool writing this blog. Be truthful & honest and not one will be able to challenge you. Do not disrespect your elders but don't let them suck you into their crab hole cause it's fire and brimstone down there. Be Well
