Bird Not Satisfied with GG's Response

Bird Not Satisfied with AG's ResponseAntigua St John's - Former prime minister Lester Bird is not satisfied with the governor general's refusal to commission an inquiry into two controversial issues.

Bird has responded to a letter from Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack on April 25, turning down his request for inquiries into alleged improprieties in the government fencing project and more recently, the Chinese power plant deal.

Bird has accused the GG of failing to be objective, and said he was not satisfied with the government's internal handling of the matter.

He was also displeased with Dame Louise's suggestion that he should wait for the power plant issue to go to Parliament, as the government had promised.

Bird said the ALP would be meeting soon to discuss their next move.

Attached below are copies of Bird and Dame Louise's exchange.

I am advocating that we do whatever it takes to take back Antigua from Baldwin Spencer and the rest of the upp incompetent gang.We are the ones who gave them the power they have, and we then must turn around and beg for them to respond to us,In other countries they would already be run out of office, and i say this without fear.Whatever gave you the idea that i am trying to school anyone? I say it as i see it and express what i feel. And i will continue to say,the PM has no respect for us,he displays all the qualities of a dictator, and to make it all worse they(the Govt) are ruining our country. It is time Antiguans wake up and demand something from this Govt,or kindly force them to leave.Have you forgotton pre 2004,i would believe you were a part of that revolution, take a dose of your medicine with a smile, and please do not tell me what to think.

For someone who is always trying to school others, you're certainly full of foolish ideas. Precisely what do you mean, ANTIGUAN WOMAN ,by "In order for us to get any justice under this govt.we're going to have to be prepared to take drastic measures. In other words, take matters in our own hands"? Is it your wish to incite a riot in Antigua & Barbuda? Do you see that as a prudent way to handle the problem, even though,in your own words,"it may not sound very pretty?" Knowing that general election is only a couple years away(in 2014),you should, instead ,be advocating patience.

Maybe Lester Bird had high hopes that the governor, being a female , would give in to his demands ,which is why he's accusing her of not being objective. With countless of his requests for an investigation into the power plant and the fencing project denied by higher-ups,he should just wait until the issues go to parliament; as it stands , the situation looks hopeless. I do not believe he(Bird) and the ALP can conjure up anything in their next meeting that would effect a positive outcome in this affair.

...no more figure-HEAD...

#6 Jumbee Picknee » 2012-04-27 13:08

Greetings folks, my only comment regarding the governor general, IS...WE DON'T NEED THIS FIGURE HEAD POSITION NO MORE...It's a relic of the british enslavement system. Maybe, we could use her image as a 'bobbing head' that we could sell to tourist and require each taxi driver to place one on their dash boards as a historical conversational piece.

#5 ANTIGUAN WOMAN » 2012-04-27 12:00

Really, what a surprise, you actually got a response.Seriou sly Mr Bird, did you expect different? The GG is another member of the Govt, you should be aware by now.In order for us to get any justice under this Govt,we,re going to have to be prepared to take drastic measures,in other words take matters in our own hands, it may not sound very pretty, but we,re at the stage now where we are losing our freedom, unless we do not wake up and decide to take our country back,we may just wake up one morning and realize we,re under a full fledged dictatorship.

#3 Sapping Hand » 2012-04-27 07:21

I think all the ALP Parliamentarian s should have signed this letter...and maybe Wilmouth too?

Bird alone may be seen as too wishy washy! I guess Asot would not want to sign - because of IHI?

In Antigua we have people in high positions disrespecting and breaking laws all the time. and when the employer,s of this land speak out they are called all types of names, Iv,ed had it so i,m going to release some stress. (''if u place a pig in a palace it would still remain a hog'').when the table turns i for one would not like even an inch of remorse been shown.
